AppleInc.,PixarTheJobsfamilySteveJobswasbornonFebruary24,1955,inthecityofSanFrancisco.HisbiologicalmotherwaseitheranunwedgraduatestudentnamedJoanneSimpson,andhisbiologicalfatherwasapoliticalscienceormathematicsprofessor,anativeSyriannamedAbdulfattahJohnJandali.BeingbornoutofwedlockinthepuritanAmericaofthe1950s,thebabywasputupforadoption.Joannehadacollegeeducation,andsheinsistedthatthefutureparentsofherboybejustaswelleducated.Unfortunately,thecandidates,PaulandClaraJobs,didnotmeetherexpectations:theywerealower-middleclasscouplethathadsettledintheBayAreaafterthewar.TheJobsfamilyPaulwasamachinistfromtheMidwestwhohadnotevengraduatedfromhighschool.Intheend,Joanneagreedtohaveherbabyadoptedbythem,underthefirmconditionthattheylatersendhimtocollege.PaulandClaracalledtheirsonStevenPaul.WhileStevewasstillatoddler,thecouplemovedtotheSantaClaracounty,latertobeknownasSiliconValley.Theyadoptedanotherbaby,agirlcalledPatti,threeyearslaterin1958.ChildhoodStevewasquiteaturbulentchild.Hereallydidn’tcareaboutschoolforsometime—untilhereachedthe4thgrade,andhadImogene“Teddy”Hillasateacher.Shewasoneofthesaintsofmylife.Shetaughtanadvancedfourthgradeclass,andittookheraboutamonthtogethiptomysituation.Shebribedmeintolearning.Shedidbribehim,withcandyand$5billsfromherownmoney.Hequicklybecamehooked—somuchsothatheskippedthe5thgradeandwentstraighttomiddleschool,namelyCrittendenMiddleSchool.Itwasinapoorarea.Mostkidsdidnotworkmuchthere,theywereratherfondofbullyingotherkids,suchastheyoungSteve.Stevejobs’veryownfamilyStevejobs’veryownfamilyBeforeStevegotmarried,hewascommittedtohiswork.Hewasatworkthewholedayandonlycamehometohaveaquickdinnerandashortnightathishome,(whichwasamansionlocatedontheWoodside.)ButhishabitstoppedassoonashemarriedLaurenPowell,in1990becausehespentmuchmoretimewithhisnewbornsonnamedReed,andhis2daughtersErinandEvewhowerebornafterReed.HisotherteenagedaughterLisa,(adaughterhehadwithhisoldgirlfriendChris-AnnBrennan),wastakenintothefamily.Steve'slifewaschangedwhenhebecameafather.Hecaredalotabouthischildrenandtheireducation.Stevejobs’veryownfamilySomeexamplesofhimcaringforhischildrenisheattendedtheirparent/teachermeetings,didnotallowthemtowatchTV,andhadthemeathealthy.SteveJobsoftentalkedabouthowhewouldtrytobalancehislifeofbeingafather,andhiswork.HereisaquoteSteveJobssaidinainterviewabouthislife,whichincludedhisfamily:Thatwasoneofthethingsthatcameoutmostclearlyfromthiswholeexperience[withcancer].IrealizedthatIlovemylife.Ireallydo.I'vegotthegreatestfamilyintheworld,andI'vegotmywork.Andthat'sprettymuchallIdo.Idon'tsocializemuchorgotoconferences.Ilovemyfamily,andIloverunningApple,andIlovePixar.AndIgettodothat.I'mverylucky.CareersAppleInc.SteveJobs'careerwithAppleInc.startedwhenhecreateditwithSteveWozniakin1976.Atthetime,Stevenoticedthatallthecomputersbeingsoldweremainframeones,(computerswhichtakeupbasicallyawholeroomandthecostisgreat).SoheandSteveredidthedesignstheywereworkingontobuildpersonalcomputers,(computersmuchsmallerandthepricemuchcheaperthenthemainframecomputers).ThesolutiontothiswasAppleII,acomputerthatcameputtogether,opposedtotheAppleIwhichrequiredyoutobuyseparatepieces.TheAppleIIstartedbeingsoldin1977andafterayearofbeingsold,madeahugeamountofmoney,$2.7million.AppleInc.TheAppleIIstartedbeingsoldin1977andafterayearofbeingsold,madeahugeamountofmoney,$2.7million.AppleInc.madehistoryinearningmoneybecausetheymade$200milliondollarsina3yearperiod.In1983,SteveJobsreleasedLisa,acomputerthatrequiredownerstohavesomeexperiencewithcomputers.Lisadidnotsellverywell,duetothefactthatotherpersonalcomputersfromothercompetitors,weresellingatalowerprice.ApplesbiggestcompetitorwasInternationalBusinessMachines.SteveJobsresignedin1985,duetothefailureoftheMacintosh.TheMacintoshwasacomputerthathadicons,(today,someiconsarephotoboothandiMovie),andanarrowonthenscreen,calledamouse.NeXTNeXTStevesaidhewantedtoleaveAppletoworkonamoreadvancedcomputer,andhewouldtakethebestengineersfromtheMacteamandstartanewcompanycalledNeXT.Applesresponsetothiswasthreateningtosuehim.Withthatinmind,SteveJobsjustleft.Laterin1988,theNeXTcomputerwasintroducedatabigeventheldinSanFrancisco,andthecompanywantedtheNeXTcomputertoendupinschools.Butunfortunately,thecomputerdidnotsellwellbecauseofitsblackandwhitescreen,andabilitynottohookuptoothercomputers.SinceSteveJobswassuchaperfectionist,thereleasedatekeptbeingdelayed.Theoperatingsystemofthecomputer,wascalledNeXTSTEP.Salesweresobad,thattheystartedsellingthecomputertobusinesses.PixarStevewenttoPixar.Atthetime,Pixarwasmakinghardwareandsoftware.ButStevedecidedtoclosethehardwarebusinessbecauseitwasnotmakingenoughmoney.Pixarfocusedontheirsoftwarethatcreated3Danimation.ItwascalledRenderMan.Pixarsoonstartedmakinganimatedcommercials.Thesecommercialswereabletokeepthebusinessgoing.PixarevensignedacontractwithDisneybutDisneyendedupcancelingthecontracttomakethemoviethatwouldbecomeToyStory.Withthecanceledcontractandafailingcompany,SteveJobswasatthelowestpointofhiscareer.ReturntoAppleInc.ReturntoApp
