-1-GroupCooperativeLearninginEnglishClassAbstract:CooperativelearningisbecominganincreasinglypopularteachingstrategyandithasalreadybeenputintotheEnglishclass.1ThispaperisgoingtoexplainwhatareGroupCooperativeLearningandtheimportanceofGroupCooperativeLearninginEnglishClassKeywords:group;cooperativelearning;Englishteaching;EnglishclassGroupCooperativeLearninginEnglishClassFacingtovariousexaminations,teachersandschoolsemphasizecompetitionbetweenstudentsintheirteaching.Asaresult,thestudentshavestrongsenseofcompetitionbutlackofthecooperativesense.Theywillnotcareabouteachother;neitherhelpseachothernorworkstogether.Thanksforthepromotionofqualityeducationinschools,cooperativelearningisadvocatedtomoreandmoreteachingareas..Itisamodelofteachingandlearning,whichemphasizesstudent-orientalandstudents’communication.ThisemphasisisveryimportantforEnglishteaching.1.WhatIsGroupCooperativeLearning?Groupcooperativelearningmeansthestudents,withtheguidanceoftheirteachers,workinsmallgroupsandreceivesrewardsorrecognitionbasedontheirgroupperformance.2Itisaformofclassroomteachingthatstudentswhoareinsmallgroupsachievethelearningtaskbyhelpingeachother,interdependenceandteachers’guidancetomaximizetheirownandeachother’slearning.Incooperativeactivities,studentsseekoutcomesthatarebeneficialtoboththemselvesandallothergroupmembers.Teachingmannerforgroupcooperativelearningistheunityofclassteachingandgroup-activities.Classteachingisthebase,andgroup-activitiesarethemainform.Thestandardforevaluationofcooperativelearningistheachievementofthewholegroup.Eachofthestudentsmakescontributiontothegroupinordertoacquirebetterpositiveresults.2.TheimportanceofGroupCooperativeLearninginEnglishClass.2.1.Groupcooperativelearningsolvesproblemsbetter.Groupcooperativelearningconducivetosolvingthecomplexproblemsbecausecooperationbetweenthestudentsisoftenbetterthanindividualeffortinthedecisiontasksandevaluationoperations,itisoftenmoreeffectivetodevelopconsensus.3Groupcooperativelearninghelpsthestudentstofindtheproblemsduringworkingtogether,noneedtobeshy,shameorevenworriedtogivewronganswerstotheteacher.It’smoreopentothestudentstoraisetheirideas.2.2.GroupCooperativelearningmakesclassactive.Refusebeingboringintheclass,teachershavetomaketheclassmoreactivetoattractstudent’sattentionandinterest.TherearetwoessentialcomponentsofusingGroup-2-cooperativelearningthathelptoassuretheclassactive.2.2.1.Positiveinterdependencetoeachotherinagroup.Positiveinterdependencemeansthateachgroupmembershouldrecognizethatifanactivityisbeneficialtoonemember;itwillbehelpfultothewholegroup.Ithelpsthestudentstoapplythisspiritintheirfurthersociallifealso,tohelpthestudentstounderstandthe“win-win”rulesinthesociality.Forexample,ifonestudentfindtheanswer,he/shewouldsharewithothersingroup,maycollectdifferentideasoftheanswers,whichwouldgivemoreexplanationorquicker,easierwaytotheanswer.2.2.2.Individualandgroupaccountability.Thegroupaccountabilityisachievementsofthegroupgoals,andtheindividualaccountabilityiscontributionsofthemember’sshareofthework.Eachofthegroupmembershasresponsibilitytofinishhis/herowntaskandhelpothergroupmemberswhoneedmoreassistance,supportandencouragementinstudying.Teachersexaminestudents’accomplishmentoftheirindividualaccountabilitybya)givingmarkstoeachgroupmembersandb)askinganyofthemtoreporthis/hergroup’sresultirregularly.2.3.GroupCooperativelearningemphasizesstudent-centre.Groupcooperativelearninggetsridofthetraditionalteachingmodelinwhichthereisonlythecommunicationbetweenteachersandstudents.Communicationbetweenstudentsistheemphasisofcooperativelearning.ItisimportantforEnglishteaching.DoingcooperativelearninginEnglishclasscannotonlyimpelstudents’learningactivities,butalsoimprovetheenvironmentoftheclassanddevelopstudents’personality.2.4.GroupCooperativelearningbenefitsstudentsinimprovingtheiroralEnglishandcommunicationalability.IntraditionalEnglishclass,teachersspeakmostofthetime;studentsjustlistenandaccepttheknowledge.Onlyafewstudentshavechancestospeakthetargetlanguage.Moreover,thestudentsthathavethechanceintheclassonlyspeakaccordingtothemodelthattheteacherssetforthem.Theyspeakbutnotcommunicate.Bycontrast,acooperativelearningclassprovidedstudentswithmuchmoreopportunitiestojoinincommunicationthroughthegroupactivities.Andthetopicstheytalkaboutareclosedtotheirdailylife.Thereisnodoubtthatthestudents’abilityofusingEnglish,especiallyofusingoralEnglishisbetter.2.5.GroupCooperativelearningbenefitsstudentsfordevelopingtheirpersonality.Knowledgecanbeabsorbedandexpressedonlyifthelearnersdothinkandpracticeindependently.Whetherstudentsaccepttheknowledgewithpessimismorlearntwithactivismwillinfluencetheteachingeffect.IntraditionalEnglishteaching,studentsdependonteacherstoomuch.Theylistentotheteacherwithoutthinking;theteacher’sanswerisalwaysrightandunique.Theirpersonalitiesareconfinedinthiskindoflearning.However,teachersjustteachthenewlanguagepointstostudentsbrieflyincooperativelearningclass.Inmostofthetimeintheclass,studentsstudy-3-withtheirgroupmembers.Teachersencouragestudentstohelpeachoth
