TenScenesinWestLakeSuCausewayinSpringDawnSuCausewaybecameatouristattractionasearlyas1090.Thatyear,SuDongpo,afamouspoetintheSongDynastyandthegovernorofHangzhou,hadthelakedredged.Thesiltanddebriswerepiledupandformedintoacauseway.Inordertohonorthepoetgovernor,localpeoplenamedtheCausewayafterhim.Today’scausewayistheresultofmanyrefurbishingprojectsovercenturies.RomanticizedasSpringDawnbySuCauseway,thesceneryhasstayedonthetopofthebesttenresortsaroundtheWestLakesincetheSouthernSongDynasty(1127-1279).LotusFlowersintheBreezingWindingCourtyardQuyuanPark(CrookedCourtyard)issituatednearthemouthofJinshajianStream,thebiggestnaturalwatersupplyintotheWestLake.IntheSouthSongDynastyaroyalwineworkshopwassetuphere.Inthelakenexttothewinerystoodalargeareaoflotuseswagglinganddancingalittlebitintoxicatinglyinsummerbreezes.Visitorsfeltwonderfulwithboththesceneryandwinewhilearomasoflotusflowersandwinewerewaftingintheair.Thespotgotitsfameasoneofthetoptenbestattractionsinthatdynastyandhaskeptitscharmincolorsandodorssincethen.AutumnMoonovertheCalmLakeThoughtheAutumnMoonovertheCalmLakerefersnowadaystoafixedlocationandoneofthetoptenattractionsaroundtheWestLake,itwasintheSouthSongDynastyageneralreferencetotheautumnnightswhenpeoplewentboatingonthelakeappreciatingthebrightmoonandenjoyingthecoolbreeze.LingeringSnowontheBrokenBridgeOnceinafinedayafterasnowfall,standingonthebridgeandlookingtowardthenorthwestattheSolitaryHillandGeHill,onecanseethehillsandbuildingscoveredwithsnowandthelakeandhillslookcrystalclear.Althoughthesnowybeautyofthesceneryisalittlebitchillyandlonely,manypeopleregarditbetterthannoisygreensandredsinotherseasonsandtheybelievetheBrokenBridgefullydeservesthetoppositionithasenjoyedforhundredsofyearsasthebestoneoftheTenWestlakeScenicSpots.Presumably,theWestLakeinafinedayisnobetterthaninrain,inrainnobetterthaninmoonlight,inmoonlightnobetterthaninsnow.LingeringSnowontheBrokenBridgeprovidesaprooftojustifythevividdescription.OriolesSingingintheWillowsOriolesSingingintheWillowswasrecognizedasoneoftheTenViewsoftheWestLakeintheSouthernSongDynasty,butbegantobeneglectedfromtheYuanDynasty(1271-1368)on.Theparkcamebacktolifeagain1950sbyaseriesofrefurbishingprojects.Today,theparkcoversanareaof21hectares,withluxurianttreessurvivingthepastdynastiesalongthewindingbank.Vastlawnsstretch,flowersarebright,pavilionsrevealtheirancientromanticstyle,birdsflapbyandgrassesshowtheirbestgreens.ViewingFishatFlowerHarborFlowerHarbor(Huagang)ParkisadjacenttoSuCausewayconsistingofRedFishPool,PeonyGarden,FlowerGarden,widespreadlawnsandwoods,occupyinganareaof21hectares.Initially,theparkwasasmallprivategardenbuiltandownedbyLuYunsheng,animperialofficialoftheSouthSongDynasty.ThegardenwaslocatedneartheFlowerHomeHill.Insidetheparkwasafishpondandastreamnearbywasusheredintothepondforraisinggoldfish.LatertheprivategardenbegantogainabigfameinHangzhouasFlowerHarborandbecamearecreationresortforviewinggoldfishes.LeifengPagodainEveningGlowLeifengPagoda,ontheEveningGlowHillsituatedonthesouthshoreoftheWestLake,waserectedincelebrationofthesonhisfavoriteconcubine,HuangFei,gavebirthto.The7storiedpagodawasastoried–pavilion–typestructure,builtofbrickandwood.Intheancienttime,LeifengPagodaandBaochuPagodastoodfarapartfacingeachother.LeifengPagodaappearedtobeanoldgentleman,butBaochuPagodaappearedtobeabeauty.Whenthesunwassetting,thepagodabathedintheeveningglowlookedradiantlybeautiful.Itwasthereforenamedas“LeifengPagodainEveningGlow”.TwinPeaksPiercingtheCloudTwinpeaksaretheNorthernPeakandSouthernPeak.OnelocatessouthwesttotheWestLakeandtheotherlocatesnorthwestwest.NorthernPeakiswithanelevationof256.9meters,SouthernPeakiswithanelevationof355meters.Thetwopeaksfaceeachotheratadistanceofmorethan5kilometers.Onadrizzlydayinspringorautumn,visitorsmayfindaspectacularviewofthetwopeakswhiletheylookupfromtheHongchunBridge.Itseemsasifanenchantinglandscapepaintingwashangingbeforethemwiththepeaksdisappearingandappearingamidstdriftingclouds.EveningBellRingingatNanpingHillEveningBellRingingatNanpinjgHill,itisoneofthe“TenViewsofWestLake”withthelongesthistory.In972A.D.afamoustemple,namedas“XingjiaoTemple”wasbuiltontheNanpinHill.Afterthat,afewmoresmalltempleswerebuiltaroundit.Therefore,NanpinHillwaslocallycalledas“BuddhismKingdomHill”.Formedoflimestone,theNanpingHillcontainslotsofcavesandcavities.Theshapeofthehillisjustlikeapaintedscreen.Therefore,whenthebellwasrungintheevening,itssonoroussoundechoedthroughthecavesandcavities,evenreachedasfarastheothershoreoftheWestLake.AndthentheGeHilllocatingtheresentbackabigechooverthelake.ThreePoolsMirroringtheMoonThelargestisleintheWestLake,ItisalsocalledtheLesserYingzhouIsle,thenamesakeafteralegendaryIsletinthedepthoftheEasternChinaSea.Theisleiselegant,harmonizingnatureandman-madelandscape.TheisleisoneofthetoptenWestlakeScenicattractionsforcenturies.Thebeautyofthescenicspotisthemooninthesky,inthewaterandintheheartofonlookers.Thethreestoneminiaturepagodasstandinginthelakeofftheislearepresumablythebestplaceformoonviewing.Thesepagodasproducemanymagicviewsofthemooninthew
