Geneticallyengineeredfoodhasalwaysbeenacontroversialtopic.Butonthisissue,Iholdthebeliefthatlarge-scalecultivationofgeneticallyengineeredfoodisanirresistibletrend.Firstandforemost,geneticallyengineeredfoodissafetobeconsumed.Sincetheintroductionofgeneticallyengineeredfood,peopleattachgreatimportancetothesafetyofgeneticallymodifiedfoods.In2016,theNationalAcademyofSciences,UnitedStates,aftertwoyearsofresearch,releasedareportentitledGeneticallyEngineeredCrops:ExperiencesandProspects.Thereportindicatesthatthereisnoevidencethatgeneticallyengineeredfoodswillaffectpeople'shealthnegatively.Onthecontrary,geneticallymodifiedinsectresistantcropsarebeneficialtohumanhealthbecauseofreducingpesticidepoisoning.Thesurveypointsoutthat,from1996to2008,theUnitedStatesreducedtheuseofpesticidesby64millionpoundsduetoplantinginsect-resistanttransgeniccrops.Geneticallyengineeredfoodscanalleviatetheshortageoffoodintheworldandprovidehealthyandhigh-qualityfoodforpeople.AreportreleasedbytheUnitedNationsindicatesthat805millionoftheworld'spopulationissufferingfromfamine.Meanwhile,theworld'spopulationiscurrentlyover7billionandisexpectedtodoubleinthenext50years.Ensuringadequatefoodsupplyisagreatchallenge.GeneticallyengineeredfoodscangreatlyincreasegrainproductionandaccordingtothesurveyconductedbyPGEconomics,from1996to2014,transgenictechnologyhasmadeglobalgrainincreaseby5.14milliontons.Finally,Geneticallyengineeredfoodswillgreatlyincreasefarmers'incomeandpromoteintensiveagriculturaldevelopmentasitcanreducethecostofplantingbreedingandpreserving.AccordingtothesurveyofPGeconomics,inthepast19years,geneticallyengineeredcropsandlivestockhavebroughtanextra$65billionforAmericanfarmers,andthedevelopingcountrieshavealsogainedbillionsofdollarsinrevenue.Allinall,thereisnodoubtthatgeneticallyengineeredfoodswillplayanextremelyimportantroleinthefuturesociety
