5、rankingreflectsdeterminedmovesbytheUSoperatorstofollowthrough5Gcommercializationcommitmentswiththelaunchof5Gservicesin2018,aidedbysignificantinfrastructurereforms(e.g.inrelationtosmall-cellsiting)inthepastyearandinitial5Gspectrumauctions.However,thereisstillmoretobedonetoensurethattheUSretainsitsleadingposition,andwehavefoundthatakeyshort-termgoalfortheUStomaintainitsleadingpositionisimprovingtheavailabilityofmid-bandspectrum.Thesecondandthirdtiersofcountriesthatwereportedonlasttimehaveexpandedt。

7、TheUShaspreviouslylaggedbehindothernationsintermsoftheamountofmid-bandspectrumbeingreleasedfor5Guse.WhilsttherehasbeensignificantprogressintheUSonotherimportantaspectsof5Glaunch,suchasreformofinfrastructureplanningprocedures(e.g.inrelationtosmall-cellsiting),thereisstillmoretobedonetoensurethattheUSretainsitsleadingpositionthroughbetteravailabilityofmid-bandspectrum,whichisakeyshort-termgoal.Whenourfirstreportwaspublishedin2018,weidentified5Gpre-commercialtrialsbeingunderwayintheleading5Gmarkets。

8、.Sincethen,therehasbeenrapidprogresstowardcommercialdeploymentandservicelaunch.Theearlycommerciallaunchesthatweidentifiedinlastyear’sreporthavenowoccurred,andthe5Gmarketiscontinuingtomoverapidlyfromtest/trialstolarge-scalepilotsandcommerciallaunches.Release15-compatibleRANequipmentiswidelyavailableandmore5Gsmartphonesareexpectedtoemergeduringthesecondhalfofthisyear,whichwillallowconsumerstouse5Gnetworksfrommobiledevices.Comparedtothe2018rankings,sixcountrieshaveeithermaintainedorimprovedtheirran。
