AReviewofTheCallofTheWildAfterreadingTheCallofTheWild,Ihavealotoffeelings.First,thedogsinthebookareallloyaltotheirmasters.Forexample,amanmakesawagerwithThorntonoverBuck'sstrengthanddevotion.Buckwinsthebetbybreakingahalf-tonsledoutofthefrozenground,thenpullingit100yardsbyhimself.Inaddition,alldogshavesenseofhonor.Theyareallproudofbeingsleddogs,anddevotethemselvestothework.Forexample,Dave,whoisgoingtodie,stillinsistsonworking.“Sickashewas,Daveresentedbeingtakenout,gruntingandgrowlingwhilethetraceswereunfastenedandwhimperingbroken-heartedlywhenhesawSol-leks(anotherdog)inthepositionhehadheldandservedsolong.Fortheprideoftraceandtrailwashis,and,sicktodeath,hecouldnotbearthatanotherdogshoulddohiswork.”Bothloyaltyandhonorarebasedonlovewhichiswhattouchesmedeeply.BecauseoflovetoThornton,Buckdoessuchthingthatseemsimpossibletoaccomplish.Becauseofsenseofhonor,Daveinsistsonworkingtillhedies.AndthroughBuck’sexperienceslivinginthewild,JackLondonwantstotellusthattheworldisdominatedbythosewhoaremuchstrongerandmorepowerfulthancommonpeople,andonlythestrongeronescouldexist.Thisisthelawofclubandfang.Buckgraduallyrealizesthelawandbeginstoobeythelawafterheisstolenandtakentothewild.Thesavageenvironmentwhichisfulloftricks,dangersanddeathsturnshimtobemorepowerfulandcunning.Finally,hebecomestheleaderofhisteam.Similartothewild,oursocietybecomescruelerandcrueler,andlivinginthesocietybecomesharderandharder.Ifyouwanttoexist,tohaveagoodlife,youshouldbetoughenoughtostandthesufferings;youshouldkeepalert,watchandlearn;youshouldmakeyourselfstrongerthanothers.Thisisthelawofliving.Asweknow,Buckanswersthecallofandreturnstothewildfinally.Inmyopinion,thecallisnotfromthewildthoughBuckoftenhearsthehowlofthewolves.Instead,itisfromthebottomofBuck’sheart.Thecallisthewillortheinstinctwhichmakeshimwanttobehimself:Awolf.Ithinkeveryoneofushasacallinourhearts.Thecallisourdream,goalorsomethingwereallywanttodo.However,underthepressureofsociety,weoftenhavetogiveupourdreamsorgoals,anddothingsweareunwillingtodo.SoweshouldlearnsomethingfromBuck:Justfollowthecall,andbeyourself!
