SongofMyselfSongofMyselfisapoembyWaltWhitmanthatisincludedinhisworkLeavesofGrass.WaltWhitmanwasoneofthemostimportantAmericanpoetsinthe19thcenturyandoneofthegreatinnovatorsinAmericanliterature.Hewantedhispoetrytobeforthecommonpeople.Intheareaofpoeticform,Whitmanmadehisgreatcontributions.Thepoeticformheemployedisnowcalledfreeverse.Thepoeticformof“SongofMyself”isfreeverse---theversewithoutafixedbeatorregularrhymescheme.Inthispoem,hesingsforself,commonpeople,America,citylife,nature,etc.EvenWhitmanused“I”inthewholepoem,hedoesnotconsiderthenarratortorepresentasingleindividual.Rather,heseemstobenarratingforallkindsofpeople.“Grass”herestandsforhope,becauseitcangrowatdifferentspace,anditalsostandsforthedevelopmentofhuman.Natureisbroadandprofound.Asahuman,however,westillneedtotrustourselves.Weshouldtakeapositiveattitudeforlife,forwhateverwemeetorthingsthatwewillmeet.
