Proverbs1TheproverbsofSolomonsonofDavid,kingofIsrael:2forattainingwisdomanddiscipline;forunderstandingwordsofinsight;3foracquiringadisciplinedandprudentlife,doingwhatisrightandjustandfair;4forgivingprudencetothesimple,knowledgeanddiscretiontotheyoung-5letthewiselistenandaddtotheirlearning,andletthediscerninggetguidance-6forunderstandingproverbsandparables,thesayingsandriddlesofthewise.7ThefearoftheLordisthebeginningofknowledge,butfoolsdespisewisdomanddiscipline.ExhortationstoEmbraceWisdom8Listen,myson,toyourfather'sinstructionanddonotforsakeyourmother'steaching.9Theywillbeagarlandtograceyourheadandachaintoadornyourneck.10Myson,ifsinnersenticeyou,donotgiveintothem.11Iftheysay,Comealongwithus;let'slieinwaitforsomeone'sblood,let'swaylaysomeharmlesssoul;12let'sswallowthemalive,likethegrave,andwhole,likethosewhogodowntothepit;13wewillgetallsortsofvaluablethingsandfillourhouseswithplunder;14throwinyourlotwithus,andwewillshareacommonpurse-15myson,donotgoalongwiththem,donotsetfootontheirpaths;16fortheirfeetrushintosin,theyareswifttoshedblood.17Howuselesstospreadanetinfullviewofallthebirds!18Thesemenlieinwaitfortheirownblood;theywaylayonlythemselves!19Suchistheendofallwhogoafterill-gottengain;ittakesawaythelivesofthosewhogetit.20Wisdomcallsaloudinthestreet,sheraiseshervoiceinthepublicsquares;21attheheadofthenoisystreetsshecriesout,inthegatewaysofthecityshemakesherspeech:22Howlongwillyousimpleonesloveyoursimpleways?Howlongwillmockersdelightinmockeryandfoolshateknowledge?23Ifyouhadrespondedtomyrebuke,Iwouldhavepouredoutmyhearttoyouandmademythoughtsknowntoyou.24ButsinceyourejectedmewhenIcalledandnoonegaveheedwhenIstretchedoutmyhand,25sinceyouignoredallmyadviceandwouldnotacceptmyrebuke,26Iinturnwilllaughatyourdisaster;Iwillmockwhencalamityovertakesyou-27whencalamityovertakesyoulikeastorm,whendisastersweepsoveryoulikeawhirlwind,whendistressandtroubleoverwhelmyou.28ThentheywillcalltomebutIwillnotanswer;theywilllookformebutwillnotfindme.29SincetheyhatedknowledgeanddidnotchoosetofeartheLord,30sincetheywouldnotacceptmyadviceandspurnedmyrebuke,31theywilleatthefruitoftheirwaysandbefilledwiththefruitoftheirschemes.32Forthewaywardnessofthesimplewillkillthem,andthecomplacencyoffoolswilldestroythem;33butwhoeverlistenstomewillliveinsafetyandbeatease,withoutfearofharm.2Myson,ifyouacceptmywordsandstoreupmycommandswithinyou,2turningyoureartowisdomandapplyingyourhearttounderstanding,3andifyoucalloutforinsightandcryaloudforunderstanding,4andifyoulookforitasforsilverandsearchforitasforhiddentreasure,5thenyouwillunderstandthefearoftheLordandfindtheknowledgeofGod.6FortheLordgiveswisdom,andfromhismouthcomeknowledgeandunderstanding.7Heholdsvictoryinstorefortheupright,heisashieldtothosewhosewalkisblameless,8forheguardsthecourseofthejustandprotectsthewayofhisfaithfulones.9Thenyouwillunderstandwhatisrightandjustandfair-everygoodpath.10Forwisdomwillenteryourheart,andknowledgewillbepleasanttoyoursoul.11Discretionwillprotectyou,andunderstandingwillguardyou.12Wisdomwillsaveyoufromthewaysofwickedmen,frommenwhosewordsareperverse,13wholeavethestraightpathstowalkindarkways,14whodelightindoingwrongandrejoiceintheperversenessofevil,15whosepathsarecrookedandwhoaredeviousintheirways.16Itwillsaveyoualsofromtheadulteress,fromthewaywardwifewithherseductivewords,17whohasleftthepartnerofheryouthandignoredthecovenantshemadebeforeGod.18Forherhouseleadsdowntodeathandherpathstothespiritsofthedead.19Nonewhogotoherreturnorattainthepathsoflife.20Thusyouwillwalkinthewaysofgoodmenandkeeptothepathsoftherighteous.21Fortheuprightwillliveintheland,andtheblamelesswillremaininit;22butthewickedwillbecutofffromtheland,andtheunfaithfulwillbetornfromit.3Myson,donotforgetmyteaching,butkeepmycommandsinyourheart,2fortheywillprolongyourlifemanyyearsandbringyouprosperity.3Letloveandfaithfulnessneverleaveyou;bindthemaroundyourneck,writethemonthetabletofyourheart.4ThenyouwillwinfavorandagoodnameinthesightofGodandman.5TrustintheLordwithallyourheartandleannotonyourownunderstanding;6inallyourwaysacknowledgehim,andhewillmakeyourpathsstraight.7Donotbewiseinyourowneyes;feartheLordandshunevil.8Thiswillbringhealthtoyourbodyandnourishmenttoyourbones.9HonortheLordwithyourwealth,withthefirstfruitsofallyourcrops;10thenyourbarnswillbefilledtooverflowing,andyourvatswillbrimoverwithnewwine.11Myson,donotdespisetheLord'sdisciplineanddonotresenthisrebuke,12becausetheLorddisciplinesthoseheloves,asafatherthesonhedelightsin.13Blessedisthemanwhofindswisdom,themanwhogainsunderstanding,14forsheismoreprofitablethansilverandyieldsbetterreturnsthangold.15Sheismorepreciousthanrubies;nothingyoudesirecancomparewithher.16Longlifeisinherrighthand;inherlefthandarerichesandhonor.17Herwaysarepleasantways,andallherpathsarepeace.18Sheisatreeoflifetothosewhoembraceher;thosewholayholdofherwillbeblessed.19BywisdomtheLordlaidtheearth'sfoundations,byunderstandinghesettheheavensinplace;20byhisknowledgethedeepsweredivided,andthecloudsletdropthedew.21Myson,preservesoundjudgmentanddiscernment,donotletthemoutofyoursight;22theywillbe
