Somepeoplethinkthatchildrenshouldobeytherulesordowhattheirparentsandteacherswanttodo.Otherpeoplethinkthatchildrencontrolledtoomuchcannotdealwithproblemsthemselvesinadulthood.Discussbothviewsandstateyourownopinion.Childrenareexpectedtoobeydifferentruleseitherathomeoratschool.Strictdisciplineissometimesimportant,butIwouldarguethatitwouldhaveanadverseimpactonchildren’sproblem-solvingabilities.Somepeoplearestrongadvocatesofimposingrulesbecauserulescanholdchildrenaccountablefortheirbehaviorandhelpthemdevelopgoodbehaviorpatternsfromayoungage.Unlikeadults,childrenarenormallynotawareoftheconsequencesofbadbehavior,andsettingrulescanhelpthemrealizehowtobehaveinasociallyacceptableway.Forexample,childrencanlearnhowtoshowgoodmannersandgetalongwithothers,whichwouldbeimportantskillsinadultlife.Ifnorulesforbidthemtousebadlanguageorbullyothers,theywillnotknowhowtodealwithsocialrelationshipsinadulthood.However,thereareconcernsthatrulesmaynothaveapositiveinfluenceonchildren,ifthoseparentswhoestablishstrictrulesgiveprioritytochildren’sobedience.Childrenwillrelyheavilyonrulesandmaynotbeabletosolveproblemsindependently.Forexample,theymaynotknowhowtomanagetimethemselves,asaresultofstrictupbringing,andtheyarenotabletodecidewhattodointheworkplacewithouttheirparents’direction.Theyareunlikelytoachievesuccessintheircareers.Inmyview,strictrulescanstiflechildren’screativityandtheyarenotabletosolveproblemsindifferentways.Theydarenotputtheirideasintopractice,sincetheyareafraidofbeingpunishedifthedisobeyrules.Iftheyarerequiredtosolvemathproblemsinoneway,forinstance,theywillrarelyconsiderotherapproaches.Theproblemsintherealworldarecomplexandtheycannottackletheseproblemswithoutusingimagination.
