GDSLABV2GDS©GDSInstrumentsLtd,2003••4GDSLABGDSLABGDSLAB•GDSLAB5••6Thissectiondescribesthetestproceduresaccordingtoparticulartestmodules.Notallavailabletestmodulesmayfeatureinthismanual.ForafulllistoftestmodulescurrentlyavailableforGDSLABcontactGDSInstrumentsdirectlyorseeGDS••••GDSLAB•••••GDSLAB?WindowsGDSLAB?GDSLAB01/07/20041-2KernelKernelGDSLAB••BS1377(CU,UUCD)•Oedometer••••K0GDSLABGDSLABGDSLABGDSLABGDSLABkernelGDS•7a,•7b,8GDSLABGDSLAB01/07/2004iii22...................................................................................2.1CD..........................................................................................................................22.2GDSLABKernel.........................................................................................22.3....................................................................................................32.4Internet()........................................................................................7GDSLAB01/07/20042-12GDSLAB:•GDSCD•internetGDSLABWindowsGDSLABGDS_”42.1CDCDCD-ROM2.2GDSLABKernelGDSLABkernelD:\setup.exe(DCDROM)WindowsGDSLAB01/07/20042-2OKC:\GDSLAB\CommonWindowsfilesmayberunningwhentheinstallationproceduretriestooverwritethemandanerrormessagewillbedisplayed.ThismaybeOKifyoucanchoosetoignorethisandcontinue,butmakeanoteofthefilesthePCrejected.Youmaybeaskedtore-bootyourPCbeforeproceeding.ThesetupprocedurewillinstallthefollowingtoyourPC:•GDSLABkernelandassociatedcompulsoryfiles.•AlldevicedriversavailableatthetimeofthereleaseoftheCD.TheGDSLABkernelisnowreadytorunbutwillnotbeabletoperformanytestingyet.AGDSLABiconshouldhavebeenaddedtoyour‘Programs’directory,alongwithaniconfortheInstallationManager.Beforeyoucanrunanytests,theinstallationmanagermustberuntoinstallfollowingadditionalcomponents,namely:•TestModule(s)–atleastonetestmodulemustexistonyourPC.•HardwareConfigurationfile–thisfiledescribestheconnectivityofyourhardware.andfinally…•ThesoftwareissecurityprotectedbyaHASP‘dongle’.Softwareforthisdonglewillneedtobeinstalled.2.3Second:UsingtheInstallationManagerTheinstallationmanagershouldberunbyeitherselectingitfromtheProgramsdirectory(a),orfromwithinGDSLABonthemanagementtoolbar(b).(a)fromdesktop(b)fromwithinGDSLABGDSLAB01/07/20042-3WhentheInstallationManagerisrunascreenwillappearasfollows:Thebuttonslabelled1–5ontheleftoftheformaretheindividualsectionsforadditionalinstallation.Theseshouldpreferablybefollowedinorder(i.e.1to5),whereateachstagedecisionsneedtobemadeaboutwhatcomponentsneedtobeinstalled/arerequiredforyoursystem.Note:thereisnoneedtoinstalleverything!–onlyinstallthosecomponentsyourequire,youcanalwayscomebackandinstalladditionalcomponentsatanytime.Selection1(TestModules)willbrowsetheGDSLABCDtothe‘TestModules’directory.AseparatelistofTestModulesavailableontheCDaresituatedwithinthisdirectory.Eachtestmoduleallowsadifferentsuiteofteststoberun.WithintheTestModuledirectory,browseintothedirectoryofyourchosenTestModule,thenclick‘Go!…’.Remember:TheremaybemoretestmodulesonyouCDthanareactuallyenabledbyyourGDSHASPsecuritydongle(keywhichisinsertedinthebackofthePC).Inwhichcaseitisonlysensibletoinstallthosemodulesthatyouknowyouwillhaveaccessto.Toenableothermodules,GDSLAB01/07/20042-4contactGDSandaskforaremotedongleupdate.Testmodulesthathavenotbeenpurchasedwillonlyrunasdemonstrationversionsandwillnotsaveanytestdata.Whenyouchoosetocreateastation,theprogramwilllookforanyfilewiththe.iniextensionwithintheC:\GDSLAB\directory.Thisfiledescribesthehardwareandthewayeachtransducerorcontrolparameterisconnectedtoyourcomputerforaparticularstation.ThisiswhatgivesGDSLABtheflexibilitytorundifferenthardwareconfigurationsasdefinedbytheuser.Clickingonthe‘StationINIfiles’buttonwillshowthefollowingform:AlistofHardwareInitialisationFiles(INIfiles)availableontheCDaresituatedintheirowndirectorywithin‘HardwareConfigurationFiles’.Each*.inifiledescribesadifferenthardwareconfiguration.WhenaninifileisselectedadescriptionofitsStationSetupappearsontherightofthescreenintheyellowbox.Press‘Go!…’totransferthisfiletotheC:\GDSLABdirectoryreadyforusewhenGDSLABisnextrun.ContactGDSifyouareunsureastowhichinifileyoushouldrun,oryouwouldlikeacustomHardwareinifilemadeforyourindividualrequirements(freeofchargeofcourse!).Eachtestmoduleallowsadifferentsuiteofteststoberun.Theprogramutilitycalled“VisualPlanner”isdesignedforcreatingyourownhardwareconfigurationfilesfromnew.AnessentialstepoftheGDSLABinstallationistoinstallthesecuritymodule.Thiswillactivateallofthepurchasedtestmodules.GDSLAB01/07/20042-5Simplypressing‘Go!…’onthescreenbelowwillactivatethefullinstallationprocessfortheGDSHASPkey.IftheprogramdoesnotfindaHASPdirectoryonyourCD,itwillallowyoutobrowsetoafloppydisk(sometimesthehaspsecuritykeyfilesaredistributedonafloppydisk).Simplybrowsetotherootdirectoryofthecorrectfloppy,andclick‘OK’,orselectthe“
