Cross-culturalInterviewandWritingGroupmembers:李丹迪迟萍黄笑罗皓Interviewingpurpose:Withthereformationandopeningprocess,therearemorechancesforustocommunicatewithforeignersinvariestopics.Aswewerebroughtupindifferentbackgroundswithdifferentcultures,ouropinionsonthesametopicmaybeentirelycontrary.Onlywhenwehaveadeeperunderstandingoftheculturaldiversity,willwebeabletoexpandourunderstandingofothersandreexaminesomeofourfalseassumptionsaswellaslearningfromthem.Inordertoknowmoreaboutculturaldiversity,wechoseGivingThanksasourtopicandhadCross-culturalinterviewsontenpeoplewithdifferentnationalities,includingChinese,American,Koreanandsoon.Interviewingprocess:Afterdistributingtheworktoeachgroupmembers,westartedourtasksindifferentways,includingface-to-faceinterview,questionnaire,telephoneinterviewandsoon.Aswehavemadeenoughpreparationanddesignedquestionsinadvance,ithasn’ttakenusmuchtimetofinishthework.Themostdifficultpartwastofindatleastfiveforeignersforourinterviews.Sincewedidn’tknowmanyforeigners,wehavetriedavarietyofmethodstocontactpeoplewithdifferentnationalities.And,besidesouroriginalinterviewingrecords,wealsomadeseveralPowerPointtopresentourinterviewingprocessinanorganizedway.ActivitySummary:Accordingtoourinterviews,peopleindifferentagesandnationalitieshavevarietyanswerstothesamequestion.Itseemsthatyoungerpeopleareusuallymoregeneroustogivethankstoothersthanelderpeople,resultingfromtheirextroversionandinternationalmind.Also,peoplewhoreceivedwesterneducationmaybemoreindebtedthaneasterners,fortheywerebroughtupwiththeprinciplethatfillingtheirheartswiththankfulness,thusleadingtotheresultthatgivingthankshasbecomeacustomintheirdailylifeandevenapartofculture.Thereisalsoonepointinoursurveywhichisworthstudying——whatpeoplearegratefulfor.Thisisaquiteundertakingbecausemanypeoplejustseethethingsinsurface,butwemustdigitout.Basedontheconclusionofoursurvey,itisparentsmorethanothersthatmostpeoplearegratefulfor.Theexplanationofthisfactisnotassimpleaswehavethought.Isthatjustforthemoneytheyhavegivenusorthefoodtheyhavecookedforus?Obviously,theanswerisno.Itistheirloveandsacrificesthatcreatingacomfortenvironmentforustogrowuphappilyandhealthily.Tosumup,whetherweareeasternersorwesterners,weshouldkeepakindheartandneverbemeantogivethanks.Althoughdifferentlifestylesandvalueshavemadeusgrownintodiversepeople,wekeepthesamebelieftorewardthosewhohadbeenhelpfultous.Trytoexpressfeelingsfromthebottomoftheheart,thenyouwillfindaharmonyworldfulloftrustandlove.
