MultimediainEnglishTeaching[Abstract]The21stcenturyisanInformationAgeaswellasaKnowledgeEconomyAge.Therapiddevelopmentandwideapplicationofcomputersofferbothgreatchallengesandopportunitiesforeducation.Asamedia,Internetisbecomingmoreandmoreimportantinourlifeandstudy.Undoubtedly,thewidespreadofmultimediatechnologyandtheadventoftheInternetcreatenewopportunitiesforlanguagelearningandexpandpossibilitiesforusingittosupportEnglishreadinginstruction.Withthebornofnewteachingmethodsandthedevelopmentofmoderneducation,educationisnot“achalk,ablackboard”anylonger.ItisimportanttoadoptthemodernisticintelligencetoolinChineseeducation.ApplyingmultimediaintoEnglishteachingistheinevitabletrend.Thisanalysisofmultimediainteachingistoprovidesomeassistancetoteachersattemptingtooptimallycombinetheirteachingwiththepowerofthetechnology.[KeyWords]multimedia;Englishteaching;application;educationinformation1.Introduction“ComputerandEnglish”areknownasthetwokeystothegateof21stcentury.Technologyandeducationhavelongbeenintertwined,butneverhasthemovementtomergethetwo.Overthepasttwentyyears,withtheprevalenceofcomputersinthehomeandworkplace,ithasnowbecomefeasibleandaffordabletointegratemultimediatechnologyintotheteachingandlearningprocess.Themoderninformationtechnologyishigh-techmethodtoadministertheteaching.ItisnecessarytoutilizethisnewmethodinEnglishteaching.Theapplicationofthemoderninformationtechnologyimprovestheteachingenvironment,promotestheteachingefficiency,expandsthecontentofcourse,andstimulatestheinterestsofstudents’.ThisinfusionofmultimediaintoEnglishteachingandlearningprocesshasalteredconsiderablytheinstructionalstrategyinoureducationalinstitutionsandchangedthewayofteachers’teachingandstudents’learning.Nowadays,multimediaisbeingusedincreasinglyinschooltoenhancethequalityofteachingandlearning.2.ThefeaturesofEducationInformationInChina,theEducationInformationisdevelopingwiththebuildingofInformationSubways.Itisthewidelyusageofmoderninformationtechnologyandinformationresourcesineducation.Besides,itprovidesenvironmentalterraceforthedevelopmentofeducation.Educationinformationtakesadvantageofdigitaltechnologytooptimizeandanalyzetheteachingprocessandteachingresources,inordertoenhancethestudents’informationaccomplishmentanddeveloptheirabilitytoadjusttotheinformationsociety.Atthe[2002]ofDocument2,theministryeducationpointsthat:informationisthetrendofworld,isthetendencyofsocietydevelopment.Thelevelofinformationcomestobethejudgmentofacountry’smodernizationandnationalpower.EducationInformationisaprocess,whosefinalgoalistomakeeducationmodernization.Thekeypointofeducationinformationishowtointegratetheinformationintoeducationproperly.3.ThebackgroundofmultimediainEnglishteaching3.1ThedefinitionofmultimediaMultimediacanbestbedefinedasvariouscombinationsoftext,graphics,sound,animationandvideowithlinksandtoolthatlettheteacher/learnernavigate,interestandcommunicatewiththecomputer.Theteachingprogressforhumanbeingsistoenhanceandintegratetheinformationtransmittedbyvarioussensors,suchaseyes,ears,noseandhand,andthentheknowledgeisacquired.Trencher,anexperimentalpsychologist,haseverdonetwofamouspsychologicalexperiments:oneisaboutthechannelsofhuman’sgettinginformation.Thatis,howhumanbeingsgetinformation.Byalargenumberofexperiments,hehasprovedthattheinformationhumanbeingsreceived,83%isbysightsense,11%byhearingsense,and94%bycombininglisteningwithseeing.Besides,3.5%isbysmellsense,1.5%bytouchsense,and1%bytastesense.Youcanseeclearlyfromthefollowingtable:Table1senseReceivedinformationSight83%Hearing11%Combinelisteningwithseeing94%Smell3.5%Touch1.5%taste1%Anotherexperimentisabouttherelationshipbetweenmemoriesandsensors.Inotherwords,howmuchmanwillstorethereceivedinformation.Theresultisasfollows:generallyspeaking,mancanremember10%ofwhathe/shejustread,20%ofwhathe/sheheard,30%ofwhathe/shesaw,50%ofwhathe/shesawandheard.Thatistosay,theeffectofstudyandmemorizingcouldreachitsmaximumifthesametopicsofsubjectsstimulatesimultaneouslythesensors.Themultimediatechnologycanbeofgreatassistanceinthissense.3.2ThebackgroundofmultimediateachingThetwenty-firstcenturyisanageofinformationexplosioninwhichthespeed,theamountandtheextentofknowledgespreadingareunparalleledinhistory.Therelationshipamongcountriesandamongpeopleisbecomingmuchcloser.Inotherwords,theworldismuchsmallerthanbefore.Therefore,itisnicknamedtheEarthVillage.People'sactivitiesarenotonlyperformedintheirowncountries,butalsointheworld.So,theimportanceofEnglishasaninternationallanguageisobvious.Thepersonswhocanlistenandspeakaswellascanreadandwritearebadlyneededinoursociety.ButundertheinfluenceoftraditionalEnglishteachingmode,thestudentscanonlyreadandwrite.Theyarecalleddeaf-mutes.SotraditionalEnglishteachingmodeisdifficulttomeettheneedsofsociety.ItischallengedbymultimediaasanewEnglishteachingassistance.Multimediaresultsfromthedevelopmentofsocietyandmoderntechnologyandisabreakthroughofthecomputerassistedteachingtechnology.Withthedeepeningofquality-orientededucation,theforeignlanguageteachingideaisfromregardingtheteacherasthecentertore
