13级3班左安琪13061069TheGreatGatsbyThisisastoryaboutGatsbyandhispursuitforthe‘Americandreams’.DuringtheWorldWarOne,thepoorsoldierGatsbyfellinlovewithanupperclassgirlnamedDaisy.Butduetothewidegapbetweenthem,DaisydecidedtomarryTom,amanofherclass,insteadofGatsby.Broken-heartedGatsbythenheldtheconvictionthatmoneywasofthegreatestimportance.Hestronglybelievedinthe‘Americandreams’,whichasweallknow,advocatesthatonecanachievewhateverheorshelikesthroughcontinuousefforts.HestrivedforfiveyearstobecomeamillionaireandboughtavillanearDaisy’stoattracther.HewastooaddictedtohisfantasytorealizethatDaisywasnolongerthelovelygirlsheusedtobe.Eventually,hewaskilledbecauseofhercrime.Ican’thelpthinkingofthethemeFitzgeraldtryingtoconvey.Onethingmaybethelonelyvoidofpeople’sspiritualworld.Iamdeeplyimpressedbychapter3.Thereweretwocircumstancesunderlyingit.Thefirstisthelackofdreams.Somepeople,especiallythepeopleoftheupperclass,livedanaimlesslife.Theywastedtheirtimeandmoneyandtookanindifferentattitudetowardslife.Theychasedfortemporaryecstasybutlosttheiridentityineternity,namelyDaisyandTom.Thesecondisthemisleadingofdreams.SomeotherslikeGatsby,bravelypursuedtheirdreams,yetgoingtoadivergedwayunconsciously.Theymightmixuptheconceptofaricherlifeandahappierlife,viewingahighersocialstateandapeacefulfulfilledlifeasequality.Unfortunately,whentheywerebusychasingtheirdreams,everythingchangedwithtime.Wtheyignoredwhattheyhadalreadyhadandlostthealerttotheconstantchanges.AsfarasIamconcerned,thisstorycanserveasareminderforus.Toliveameaningfullife,weshouldcarefullychoosesomedreamstopursue.Andintheprocessoffulfillingourdreams,weshouldalwaysbeconciousaboutwhatwereallydesire.Anyhow,onlybypursuingtheproperdreamscanwefinallygettothedeepspringsofhappiness.
