AfterreadingJohnHersey’sbook,Hiroshima,Ifeelverysympathetictowardstheinnocentcitizensofthatcityinthe1940s.Anditisthehumanity’smostheinouscrime,inmyopinion.Thebehaviorofsixsurvivorsintheatomicdisasterisworthyofadmirationinsuchanemergency.Amongthemthereisonepersonwhogivesmeastrongimpression——sheisMrs.Nakamura——amotherwiththreeyoungchildren:aten-year-oldboy,aneight-year-oldgirlandafive-year-oldgirl.HerexcellentvirtueandqualitiesarethetypicalsymbolsoftenderJapanesewomeninthatcontemporarysociety,whicharealsothespiritualwealthforustolearnfromforever.Firstly,IamazeatMrs.Nakamura’scourageandlivingbeliefofconfrontingthepainandmiserycontinuouswarsandtheatomicbombardmentbroughttoher.Asweallknow,herhusbandkilledinthecruelbattleofSingapore,thewarmadeherbecomeawidowanddestroyedherhappyfamily.Hearingthisbadnews,shemusthadbeentornwithgrief,sorrowanddepressed.However,althoughshesufferedsomuchmisfortune,shestillkeptcalmandbroughtuptheyoungchildrenasusual,whichmaybeoneaimandonesinglepurposeoftherestlifeofamother,aJapanesemother.Inordertosupportthewholefamily,sheherselfhadtobearuptheheavyburden.She,Mrs.Nakamura,gotoutthesewingmachine——herhusband’sonlycapital——totakeinpieceworkandtomakeatoughliving.Itmusttakeherenormousnerveandwillpowertobefightagainstthemiserablelife.IappreciatedandthoughthighlyofMrs.Nakamuraspiritsandcouragetofacetheunfortunatelife.Secondly,asfarasI’mconcerned,Mrs.Nakamuraisanextraordinarymother.Thattheatomiccataclysmhappenedlefthernothing,exceptherthreechildrenandtheruinsoftheironlyhouse.Mrs.Nakamura’smother,brotherandoldersister,whohadlivedinthepartoftown,werealldead.She,withherthreechildren,hadtomoveinhersister-in-law’shome,dependentonthecharityofotherpeople.Duringthewartime,toasinglemotherwiththreechildren,itisnodoubtthewaytothefuturewasfilledwithpotentialdanger,unknowndifficultiesandmoresocialpressure,whichwasthebiggestproblematthatmomentforthispoormother.Itwasdeep-rootedloveforherchildrenthatmadehergotoherlengthtodoanythingshecouldtosurvive,tobethefatherandthemotherofherthreechildrentoraisethewholefamily,toprotectherchildrenfromharms,toseethemgrowuphealthilyandhappilyuntiltheybecameusefulpersons.Inthetext,itmentionedthatsherentanewwoodenhouse,clearedtherooms,plantedavegetablegarden,sewedclothesforothers,sentchildrentoschool……TheJapaneselady’sactionletmehaveadeepunderstandingthegreatnessofmotherhoodThirdly,throughMrs.Nakamura’sactionduringtheatomicbomb,manypreciousqualitiesweremanifested:herkindandwarmheartinfaceofdanger,thepossessionofbrilliantjudgment,loyaltytohercountry.Forexample,inChapter3ofthisbook,Iwasdeeplymovedbyaplot,Mrs.Nakamoto,whosedaughterwascutbadly,askedMrs.Nakamuraforsomebandage.Withoutconsideringherownsafety,shecrawledintotheruinsofherhouseandpulledoutwhiteclothforMrs.Nakamoto.What’smoreimportant,thankstohersensiblejudgmentandcourageouschoice,threechildrenwererescuedfromtheruinsintimebecauseshemadeachoiceduringtheprocessofthemostimportantrescuedaction.Thatistosaveanotheronechildwhowasinmoreterriblesituationinsteadofsavingheryoungestchildfirstly.Thisbraveactionrescuedallofthethreechildren.Lastbutnotleast,shewasveryloyaltohercountry.Althoughshelostherhusbandandsacrificedthehappyfamilytothesafetyofthecountry,shestilllovedhermotherland.Evenafterthewarwasover,shejustgaveupthethoughtthatJapanstillhadachancetowinthewar……Toanutshell,inmyopinion,Mrs.Nakamuraisaverykindandwarm-heartedwomanforothers,acourageousandextraordinarymotherforherthreechildren,abraveandstanchpersonforthemiserablelife,aloyalandpatrioticcitizenforhercountry.
