I.J.EngineeringandManufacturing2012,5,62-68PublishedOnlineOctober2012inMECS()DOI:10.5815/ijem.2012.05.09Availableonlineat(OGSA).ByanalyzingthedeficienciesexistinginthepresentcampusnetworkandthecomparativeadvantagesofcampusGrid,itpresentsanddiscussesthemodelanddesignofOGSA-basedcampusGrid.BuildingcampusGridisanimportantworkinGridgainingground;therefore,thestudyonOGSA-basedCam-pusGridisofgreatsignificanceinapplyingGridcomputingtoeducationalfield.IndexTerms:GridComputing;DigitalCampus;CampusGrid;OGSA©2012PublishedbyMECSPublisher.Selectionand/orpeerreviewunderresponsibilityoftheInternationalConferenceonE-BusinessSystemandEducationTechnology1.IntroductionWiththerapiddevelopmentofcomputerandinformationtechnology,digitaleducationisbeingrapidlyen-hancedinuniversities.Atpresent,mostcollegeshavetheirowncampusnetworkandbuilddigitalcampus.Asthemainsupportplatform,campusnetworkplaysmoreandmoreanimportantroleinallwalksofuniversitylife,suchasteaching,scientificresearchandmanagementandsoon.However,becauseofheterogeneityoftheentireInternetfromhardwaretosoftwareandlackofuniformstandardsamongdifferenteducationalinstitu-tions,theeducationresourcesontheinternetcannotbefullyshared,whichleadstoalackofextensiveresourcesharingandseverelyrepetitivedevelopmentsoflearningresources.TheGridtechnologyisthelatestdevelopmentininformationtechnology.Itcombinesandintegrateshetero-geneousresourcesinthewholeInternettoformasuper-computer,withstrongercomputingabilityandmorecomprehensiveresourcesharing.Forthemoment,themostinfluentialGridsystemarchitectureisOpenGridServicesArchitecture(OGSA).ApplyingGridtechnologytobuildanOGSA-baseddigitalcampuswilleffec-tivelyresolvetheproblemsmentionedinthepreviousparagraph,andgreatlyalterthestatusquoandpromotethefurtherdevelopmentofthedigitalcampus.Correspondingauthor:E-mailaddress:azhang_slxx@126.com;byinqsh@163.comResearchonApplicationofOGSA-basedDigitalCampus632.GridConceptandGridArchitecture2.1.TheconceptofGridcomputingThewordGridisusedbyanalogywithelectricpowerGrid,whichprovidespervasiveaccesstoelectricityand,likethecomputerandasmallnumberofotheradvances,hashadadramaticimpactonhumancapabilitiesandsociety[1].Itsgoalisthatwecanusenetworkservicesashandyaselectricity.Whenweuseelectricequipment,theonlythingweneedtodoisinserttheplugintothecorrespondingsocket,wedonotneedtoknowwheretheelectricitycomesfrom,bywhatpoweritissupplied,howthepoweristransmittedorhowweneedtomanagethem.Forthecommonuser,allthesearetransparent.Gridcomputingisatermreferringtothecombinationofcomputerresourcesfrommultipleadministrativedomainstoreachacommongoal[2].Asanemergingtechnology,Gridisconstantlydevelopingandchanging.Itwasoriginallydevelopedtoenableresourcesharingwithinscientificcollaborations;however,ithasbeenwidelyusedonincreasinglylargerscales.InfactthereisnoformalGriddefinitionwhichisgenerallyaccepted.Accordingtomyownunderstanding,Gridisdefinedasfollows:GridisatechnologytoenablethesharingofallresourcesontheInternettoachieveinteroperability,includ-inghardware,softwareandcommunicationresources.2.2.TheCharacteristicsofGridGridisanemergingnetworkinfrastructure,andhastheadditionalcapabilities:1)distributionandsharingDistributionisthephysicalcharacteristicofGrid,anditmeansGridresourcesaredistributed;ResourcesharingisoneofthepurposesofGrid,anditisthesoftwaresupporttorealizeGrid’slogicalfeatures.Onema-jorpurposeofGridistoeliminatetheresourceisolatedislandsoastocompletelyshareresourcesovertheIn-ternet[3].2)DynamicandHeterogeneityGridisacollectionofvariousresourcesandservices.ForaGridsystem,itsservice,resourcesandsizeareconstantlychangingwhilenewGridresourcesandservicesareaddedordeleted.HeterogeneitymeansGridcanconnectvariousheterogeneousnetworksystemsandthemostextensiveeducationresources[4].3)SupercomputingperformanceandStrongsupportservicesTheGridsystemcancombineallcomputerstogethertobecomeavirtualsupercomputer[3].Virtuallabora-tory,spaceandTele-immersionnetworkeducationservicesallneedstrongcalculatingability,whichisverydifficulttorealizeinthetraditionalnetworkenvironment,whilebeingeasilyobtainedintheGridenvironment.Gridcanprovideaccurateserviceintelligentlyandquickly,accordingtotheneedsofusers.Whenusersin-puttheirownrequestsinGridsystems,theresourcesneededcanbelocatedandreturnedtothemquicklyandaccurately.4)Self-similaritySelf-similarityisaverycommonphenomenoninthenaturalworld.Itreflectsthenaturalattributesoftheworldtoacertainextent.Grid’sself-similarityisexplainedthatGridstructureisinaccordwithnature,orGridtoacertaindegreeismuchclosertothelawsofnature[4].64ResearchonApplicationofOGSA-basedDigitalCampus2.3.GridArchitectureGridarchitectureidentifiesfundamentalsystemcomponents,specifiesthepurposeandfunctionofthesecomponents,a
