Issue1381Standard1.2.11STANDARD1.2.11COUNTRYOFORIGINREQUIREMENTSTotakeeffecton18July2013(Australiaonly)PurposeandcommentaryThisStandardsetsouttherequirementsforcountryoforiginlabellingforpackagedfoodsandcertainunpackagedfoods.TheserequirementsdonotapplyinNewZealand.TableofProvisions1Application2Countryoforiginlabellingforpackagedfood3CountryoforiginlabellingforcertainunpackagedfoodClauses1Application(1)ThisStandarddoesnotapplytoafoodthatisofferedforimmediateconsumptionwherethefoodissoldby–(a)restaurants;or(b)canteens;or(c)schools;or(d)caterersorself-cateringinstitutions;or(e)prisons;or(f)hospitals;or(g)othersimilarinstitutionslistedintheTabletoclause8ofStandard1.2.1.(2)Subclause1(2)ofStandard1.1.1doesnotapplytothisStandard.2Countryoforiginlabellingforpackagedfood(1)Subclause(2)appliestofoodinapackage.(2)Thefoodmustbelabelledwith–(a)astatementonthepackagethatidentifiesthecountrywherethefoodwasmade,producedorgrown;or(b)astatementonthepackage–(i)thatidentifiesthecountrywherethefoodwasmanufacturedorpackaged;and(ii)totheeffectthatthefoodisconstitutedfromingredientsimportedintothatcountryorfromlocalandimportedingredients.(3)However,subclause(4)appliestofoodinapackageif–(a)thefoodisunprocessedfruitandvegetables,whetherwholeorcut;and(b)thefoodisdisplayedforretailsale;and(c)thepackagedoesnotobscurethenatureorqualityofthefood.Issue1382Standard1.2.11(4)Thefoodmustbelabelledwithastatementonthepackageorinconnectionwiththedisplayofthepackagewhich–(a)identifiesthecountryorcountriesoforiginofthefruitandvegetables;or(b)indicatesthatthefruitandvegetablesareamixoflocalandimportedfoods;or(c)indicatesthatthefruitandvegetablesareamixofimportedfoods.3Countryoforiginlabellingforcertainunpackagedfood(1)FoodlistedintheTabletothissubclausethatisdisplayedforretailsaleotherthaninapackagemustbelabelledwithastatementonorinconnectionwiththedisplayofthefoodwhich–(a)identifiesthecountryorcountriesoforiginofthefood;or(b)indicatesthatthefoodisamixoflocalandimportedfoods;or(c)indicatesthatthefoodisamixofimportedfoods.Tabletosubclause3(1)Column1Column2ItemFood1Fish,includingfishthathasbeenmixedorcoatedwithoneormoreotherfoods2Pork3Fruitandvegetables4Beef5Veal6Lamb7Hogget8Mutton9Chicken10AmixoffoodsmentionedinthisTable(2)Inthisclause,afoodlistedinColumn2oftheTabletosubclause3(1)includesafoodthathasbeen–(a)cut,filleted,sliced,mincedordiced;or(b)pickled,cured,dried,smoked,frozenorpreservedbyothermeans;or(c)marinated;or(d)cooked.(3)InadditiontotherequirementsofStandard1.2.9,thestatementrequiredbysubclause(1)mustbeatleast9mminheight,unlessthefoodisinarefrigeratedassistedservicedisplaycabinet,inwhichcaseitmustbeatleast5mminheight.
