Science:InformationforAuthorsScienceisaweekly,peer-reviewedjournalthatpublishessignificantoriginalscientificresearch,plusreviewsandanalysesofcurrentresearchandsciencepolicy.Wewelcomesubmissionsfromallfieldsofscienceandfromanysource.GeneralInformationforAuthorsScience'sMission:Scienceseekstopublishthosepapersthataremostinfluentialintheirfieldsoracrossfieldsandthatwillsignificantlyadvancescientificunderstanding.Selectedpapersshouldpresentnovelandbroadlyimportantdata,syntheses,orconcepts.TheyshouldmerittherecognitionbythescientificcommunityandgeneralpublicprovidedbypublicationinScience,beyondthatprovidedbyspecialtyjournals.Wewelcomesubmissionsfromallfieldsofscienceandfromanysource.Wearecommittedtothepromptevaluationandpublicationofsubmittedpapers.Scienceispublishedweekly;selectedpapersarepublishedonlineaheadofprint.ManuscripttypesOriginalresearchCommentaryPublicationandScienceExpressManuscriptselectionSubmissionrequirementsandconditionsofacceptanceAuthorshipFundingandconflictofinterestPriorpublicationPriorpresscoverageRelatedpapersSecurityconcernsUnpublisheddataandpersonalcommunicationsDataandmaterialsavailabilityHumanresearchstudiesAnimalcareLicenseAccesspoliciesEmbargopolicyContactinformationMANUSCRIPTTYPESPeer-ReviewedManuscriptsPresentingOriginalResearchResearchArticles(upto~4500words,includingreferences,notesandcaptions,or~5printedpages)areexpectedtopresentamajoradvance.ResearchArticlesincludeanabstract,anintroduction,uptosixfiguresortables,sectionswithbriefsubheadings,andabout40references.MaterialsandMethodsshouldusuallybeincludedinsupplementarymaterials,whichshouldalsoincludeinformationneededtosupportthepaper'sconclusions.Reports(upto~2500wordsincludingreferences,notesandcaptionsor~3printedpages)presentimportantnewresearchresultsofbroadsignificance.Reportsshouldincludeanabstract,anintroductoryparagraph,uptofourfiguresortables,andabout30references.MaterialsandMethodsshouldusuallybeincludedinsupplementarymaterials,whichshouldalsoincludeinformationneededtosupportthepaper'sconclusions.Breviaarebriefcontributions(600to800wordsincludingreferences,notesandcaptions)accompaniedbyoneillustrationortablethatmustbecontainedononeprintedpage.Authorsshouldalsosubmitanabstractof100wordsorlessthatwillappearonlineonly.Materialsandmethodsshouldbeincludedinsupplementarymaterials(upto500wordsandonefigure/table).Reviews(upto3500wordsincludingreferences,notesandcaptions)describenewdevelopmentsofinterdisciplinarysignificanceandhighlightfuturedirections.Theyincludeanabstract,anintroductionthatoutlinesthemaintheme,briefsubheadings,andanoutlineofimportantunresolvedquestions.Amaximumof40referencesissuggested.MostReviewsaresolicitedbytheeditors,butunsolicitedsubmissionsmayalsobeconsidered.CommentaryScience'sCommentarysectionpresentanalysisbyscientistsandotherexpertsonissuesofinteresttoSciencereaders.WiththeexceptionofLettersandComments,mostitemsinthesesectionsarecommissionedbytheeditors,butunsolicitedcontributionsarewelcome.Perspectives(upto1000wordsplus1figure)highlightrecentexcitingresearch,butdonotprimarilydiscusstheauthor'sownwork.Theymayprovidecontextforthefindingswithinafieldorexplainpotentialinterdisciplinarysignificance.PerspectivescommentingonpapersinScienceshouldaddadimensiontotheresearchandnotmerelybeasummaryoftheexperimentsdoneinthepaper.AlthoughmanyofthePerspectivesthatcommentonresearchpublishedinSciencearesolicited,wewelcomeinquiriesregardingnewadvancesandfreshinsights.Asthesearemeanttoexpressapersonalviewpoint,withrareexceptions,PerspectivesshouldhavenomorethantwoauthorsBooksetal.(upto1000words)presentsreviewsofcurrentbooks,multimedia,exhibitions,andfilmsofinteresttoSciencereaders.PolicyForum(1000to2000wordsplus1-2figures)presentsissuesrelatedtotheintersectionsbetweenscienceandsocietythathavepolicyimplications.EducationForum(approximately2000words)presentsessaysonscienceeducationanditspracticefrompre-collegetograduatework.Theyarenotmeanttoberesearchreportsofanindividualprogram.(ResearchresultsrelatedtoeducationshouldbesubmittedtotheReportssection.)Letters(upto300words)discussmaterialpublishedinScienceinthelast3monthsorissuesofgeneralinterest.Lettersshouldbesubmittedonline().Lettersaresubjecttoeditingforclarityandspace.Lettersrejectedforprintpublicationmaybepostedasonlinecomments.Comments.BriefonlinecommentscanbesubmittedonpapersornewsstoriespublishedinScienceimmediatelyafterprintpublication.Commentsaresubmittedfromthefull-textviewonScienceOnlineandwillbeevaluatedpromptlyandifaccepted,postedwiththearticle.Authorsareidentifiedandmustagreetoourtermsandconditions(upto1000words,2figuresortables,and15references),arepublishedinfullonScienceOnlineanddiscussresearchpaperspublishedinSciencewithintheprevious3months.Authorsshouldsubmitabriefabstract(60wordsorless)toaccompanytheircommentthatwillbeincludedintheLetterssectionoftheprintedition.TechnicalCommentsshouldnotnormallycontainSupplementaryMaterials.ContentsofTechnicalCommentspostedelsewhere,inprintoron
