1、1.INTRODUCTIONAninvestigationofhistoricallostcirculationevents,particularlyindeepwaterenvironments,ledtotheconsiderationofthermaleffectsonformationstressasapossiblecause.Theevidencesupportedthepossibilitythathighdifferentialtemperaturesbetweenthedrillingmudandtheformationsmightbecausinghighthermally-inducedtensilestresses,reducingtheformationbreakdownpressuresufficientlytoallowtheformationofopenfracturesatthemudpressuresthatwereusedtodrillthewells.Inordertotestthetheoreticalpredictionsoftempera。

10、iththemagnitudeofthethermaleffectdecreasingandthelocationofthethermally-inducedinstabilitiesmovingawayfromthewellboreatlongertimes[5].Bothelasticandporoelasticmodelspredictthatmudwhichiscolderthanthereservoirtemperaturewillinhibitshearfailureoftheformation.Theporoelasticmodelsalsopredictthatthebeneficialresultofcoolingwilldissipateatlongtimes,resultinginapossibilityoftime-delayedformationcollapse[5,7].Wellboretemperatureshotterthantheformationtemperaturearepredictedtoincreasetheriskofshearfailure。
