SmartHomeandIntelligentBuildingControlEnergyEfficiencyinBuildingswithABBi-bus®KNX22CDC500060M02012CDC500060M02013EconomicallyandecologicallyessentialEnergysavingsinthedouble-figurepercentagerangeClimatechangeandgrowingshortagesofresourcesarethebigchallengesofourtime.Inaddition,manycountriesaroundtheworldaredependentonimportedenergy–intheEU,forexample,50%ofenergyconsumedtodayisimported–afigureexpectedtoreach70%by2030.Efficientandsustainableenergyusageisthereforeanurgentnecessity–fullyinaccordancewiththemottocoinedbytheEuropeanCommission“lessismore”.Followingtheareasoftransportandpowergeneration,buildingtechnologyisthelargestconsumerofenergy.Heating,coolingandlightinginresidentialandofficebuildingsmakeupapproximately40%oftheenergyconsumedintheindustrialnations–asharethatleavesalotofscopeforefficientoptimization.OntheEuropeanlevel,thisfacthasbeenmetwiththepublicationofadirectiverelatingtotheenergyperformanceofbuildings(2002/91/EC).Themaindemandthatitincorporatesistheissueofanenergycertificatedetailingtheenergyconsumptionofthebuildingaswellasanalysisofthepotentialsavings.Topavethewayforthesemeasures,anumberofEuropeanStandardshavebeenimplemented–e.g.EN15232–andinGermanyaDINstandard(DINV18599)confrontstheissue.ThecentralroleofintelligentbuildingcontrolBuildingsystemengineeringsupportedbyintelligentandnetworkedroomandbuildingcontrollers(lighting,sunprotection,heating,ventilationandairconditioningaswellastheotherbuildingengineeringsystems)contributesignificantlytoconservativeandrequirement-basedenergyuse.TheworldwidestandardforKNXtechnologyenablesenergysavingsinthedouble-figurepercentagerangeandalsoprovidesenhancedflexibilitywithplanningandimplementation,ahighlevelofinvestmentprotectionandahighlevelofavailability.Variousconceptsandapproachesarepossibleintheoptimisationofenergyefficiencyinbuildings.Inthiscontext,theuseofintelligentbuildingcontrolprovidesaprovenandinterestingalternativeoradditionthatisclearlysetapartbyitsconvincingcost-benefitratio.Inthisbrochure,youwillfindfigures,dataandfacts,whichclearlyindicatethehighlevelofoptimisationpotentialofferedbyusingABBi-bus®KNXintelligentbuildingcontrol.Optimisationofenergyefficiencyinbuildingsmeansforus–Onlyuseenergywhenitisreallyrequired–Onlyusetheamountofenergyactuallyrequired–Applytheenergythatisusedwiththehighestpossibleefficiency42CDC500060M0201KNXResearchliterature“Energysavingpotentialusingmodernelectricalinstallation”TheBiberachUniversityofAppliedSciences,InstituteforBuildingandEnergySystems,specialisinginbuildingautomation,carriedoutliteratureresearchonthetopicof“Energysavingpotentialusingmodernelectricalinstallations”in2008.HeadedbyProf.Dr.-Ing.MartinBecker,themostimportantsourcesofliteraturewiththefiguresforpotentialsavingstheycontainedwerecompiledtoanoverallresult.ThestudywascommissionedbyZVEI–ZentralverbandElektrotechnik-undElektronik-industriee.V.(GermanElectricalandElectronicManufacturers’Association).Insomeofthesourcesexamined,thetechnicalbasis–bussystemorcentralcontrolsystem–usedtoachievethepotentialsavingsisnotexplicitlystated.However,bussystemssuchasKNXarefeaturedrepeatedly;inthemajorityofcasestheyarethetechnologyonwhichthesavingsarebased.Thewidespreadofthevaluesachievedinsomeareascanbeascribedtoanumberoffactors–applicationsconsistingofmultiplefunctions,thefieldtestcharacteroftherespectivetests,differingfunctiondefinitions,etc.Nevertheless,theresearchleavesthereaderinnodoubt–intelligentbuildingcontrolcanmakesignificantcontributiontoenergyefficiencyinbuildings.2CDC500060M02015ResultofthestudyTheutilisableliteraturesourcesclearlyindicatesignificantpotentialforoptimisationregardingreductionoftheenergyconsumptionbytheuseofmodernelectricalinstallationsystems:Theaveragevalueofallthesourcesresultsinasavingpotentialintherangeof:Roomheatingcontrol:approx.14-25%Heatingautomation:approx.7-17%Shuttercontrol:approx.9-32%Lightingcontrol:approx.25-58%Ventilationcontrol:approx.20-45%Intotal,thisresultsinanaverageenergysavingbygeneralmeasuresandoptimisationofthecontrolengineeringintheorderofapprox.11to31%.Thecorrespondingmaximumvaluesofthedifferentareasrecordedintheliteratureinthestudycanbeseeninthefollowingdiagram.ReducedenergyconsumptionthroughutilizationofintelligentbuildingcontrolinhousesandbuildingsMaximumvaluesinthestudy“Energysavingpotentialusingmodernelectricalinstallations”roomheatingcontrolPercentageofreducedenergyconsumption(%)heatingautomationshuttercontrollightingcontrolventilationcontrol62CDC500060M0201TheEuropeanStandardEN15232AkeycontributiontoworldwideenergyefficiencyAroundtheworldnewlegislationispromotingtheuseofenergyefficienttechnologies.TheEuropeanStandardEN15232(“Energyperformanceofbuildings–ImpactofBuildingAutomation,ControlsandBuildingManagement”)wascompiledinconjunctionwiththeEurope-wideimplementationofthedirectiveforenergyefficiencyinbuildings(EnergyPerformanceofBuildingsDirectiveEPBD)2002/91/EG.Thestandarddescribesmethodsforevaluatingtheinfluenceofbuildingautomationandtechnicalbuildingmanagementontheenergyconsumptionofbuildings.Fourefficien
