BookReview---LordoftheFliesIreadthefamouscriticalnovelLordoftheFliesinlastwinterholiday,andIthinkitisaverythought-provokingbook.Itexposesthenaturalevilandsavageinhumanity,alsoknownastheweaknessesofhumanity,bytellingusastorybetweenagroupofboys’lifeonadesertisland.Inthemidstof“WorldWarThree”,aBritishplanecrashedontoatropicalisolatedislandinaremoteregionofthePacificOcean.Theonlysurvivorsontheplanewereboysbelowtheageof13.Twoboys,thefair-hairedRalphandanoverweightboywithspectacleswhohasasthmaandisreluctantlynicknamed“Piggy”,foundaconchinthebeach.Ralphusedtheconchasahorntoassembleallthesurvivedboysintoonearea,andtheybeganameeting.Inthemeeting,Ralphwaschosentobethe“chief”ofalltheboys,andtheconchbecamethesymbolofhopeanddemocracy.Ralphassertedonlytwoprimarygoals:Tohavefunandtomaintainasmokesignalsothatpassing-byshipswillbeawareoftheirexistenceontheisland.Oneboy,JackMerridew,wastheleaderofaboychoir.Hedidn’tlikeRalphanddisobeyedRalph’srulesmanytimes.Henotonlystoppedthesmokegoing,butalsoorganizea“huntingparty”mainlyforhissavagery.Piggy,ontheotherhand,unfortunatelybecomesanunwillingsourceoflaughfortheotherchildren.Butgoodtimesdidn’tlastlong:RalphandJackbegantoquarrel,theboyswerejitterylikeagroundedmonster.Jackputcolorsonhisface---justlikewearingamask.Hehidhimselfandtheotherboysinthe“huntingparty”,andtheirbeastsintheheartbegantobreakout.Jackwantedtohavepowers,hewantedtobethe“chief”,andtherecametheCivilWar.Thechildrenareinatitfortatsituation:RalphandPiggyononesidewithJackandtheotherboysontheoppositeside.Whiletheywerefightingtheirever-lastingbattle,oneboynamedSimonleftthegroupanddiscoveredthevillainofallthis:Theborndarknessinsidehumanity.Whenwearefarfromthecivilizationsociety,havingnoproperrulesororders,andlackingforshelter,food,andotherimportantthings,thebeastinsideuswillbereleased.Butsarcastically,PiggyandSimonbothlosttheirlifeinthecivilwar,theconchwassmashedtofragments,andRalphwasbeingmiserable:TheotherboysthatwereledbyJackwerehuntinghimdown.Thebrutalhuntingdidn’tenduntilapassing-byshipsawtheirsmoke.Alloftheboyssobbedhardwhentheysawthecaptainbecausetheyfinallyrealizedwhattheyhavedoneafterseeinghope.Theauthor,WilliamGolding,thoughtthatapersonisbornevilinthenovel.LordoftheFlies’plotsareveryreality,everyoneislikeamoonandhasadarksidewhichheorshenevershowstoanybody.Inthesociety,wehavemoralrestraintandlaws,sowealwayskeepagoodpolity.Meetthehuntingparty’sorgiasticsong:“Killthebeast!Cuthisthroat!Spillhisblood!”Whenyoureadthebook,youwillfindoutthenatureofhumanisreallycomplex,andcivilizationeducationisweakifitfightsagainsthumandarkness.
