VincentWillemvanGogh,1853-1890•VincentvanGoghwasaDutchPost-Impressionistartist.HeisgenerallyconsideredasthegreatestDutchpainterafterRembrandt,thoughhehadlittlesuccessduringhislifetime.VanGoghproducedallofhiswork(some900paintingsand1100drawings)duringaperiodofonly10yearsbeforehesuccumbedtomentalillness(possiblybipolardisorder)andcommittedsuicide.Hispaintingsanddrawingsincludesomeoftheworld'sbestknown,mostpopularandmostexpensivepiece.ExpressiveluminosityofcolorandblotchybrushworkareVincentvanGogh'sdistinguishingcharacteristicswhichmadehimthemodelofexpressionistpaintersattheturnofthecentury.•VincentWillemvanGoghwasbornin1853.HewasthesonofAnnaCorneliaCarbentusandTheodorusvanGogh,aministeroftheDutchReformedChurch.Hewasgiventhesamenameashisgrandfather-andafirstbrotherstillbornexactlyoneyearbefore.ArtandreligionwerethetwooccupationstowhichtheVanGoghfamilygravitated.VincentvanGoghoriginallyplannedtostudytheology.•VanGoghspenthisearlylifeworkingforafirmofartdealers.Afterabriefspellasateacher,hebecameamissionaryworkerinaverypoorminingregion.Hedidnotembarkuponacareerasanartistuntil1880.Professionalandpersonalfailureledhimtopainting,inwhichhesawawayofgivingexpressiontomentalandemotionaltension.ThecentralfigureinVincentvanGogh'slifewashisbrotherTheo,whocontinuallyandselflesslyprovidedfinancialsupport.TheirlifelongfriendshipisdocumentedinnumerousletterstheyexchangedfromAugust1872onwards•Initially,vanGoghworkedonlywithsombercolors,untilheencounteredImpressionismandNeo-ImpressionisminParis.Althoughhisownpaintingstylewasprimarilydevelopedautodidactically,heincorporatedimpressionisticbrightercolorsandtheirstyleofpaintingintohis,uniquelyrecognizablestyle.ItwasfullydevelopedafterhesettledinArles,andthisstayinProvence.Itisseenasthezenithofhiscreativework.•Heproducedmorethan2,000works,includingaround900paintingsand1,100drawingsandsketches,duringthelasttenyearsofhislife.Mostofhisbest-knownworkswereproducedinthefinaltwoyearsofhislife,duringwhichtimehecutoffpartofhisleftearfollowingabreakdowninhisfriendshipwithPaulGauguin.Attheendof1888vanGogh'smentalillnessworsenedandinoneoutbursthepursuedGauguinwithaknife,threateninghim.Laterthatday,vanGoghcutoffpartofhisownearthenofferedittoaprostituteasagift.HewastemporarilyhospitalizedandGauguinleftthehometheyshared,endingvanGoghsdreamofsettingupanartschoolVanGoghcommittedhimselftoanasyluminSaint-Rémy-de-ProvencelaterthatyearandtherehepaintedStarryNight,oneofhistorysmostinfluentialartworks.Helefttheasylumin1890andinJulyofthatyearattemptedsuicidebyshootinghimselfinthechest.Hediedtwodayslaterfromthewoundaged37.VanGoghsclosestbrother,TheodiedjustsixmonthslaterandhiswidowpublishedvanGoghswork,gaininghistherecognitionhelongedfor•Bythetimeofhisdeath,VanGogh'sworkhadbeguntoattractcriticalattention.HispaintingswerefeaturedattheSalondesIndépendantsinParisbetween1888and1890.AsGauguinwrotetohim,hisrecentworks,onviewattheIndependentsinParis,wereregardedbymanyartistsasthemoststrikingintheshow;andoneofhispaintingssoldfromthe1890exhibitioninBrussels.InJanuary1890,thecriticAlbertAurierpublishedthefirstfull-lengtharticleonVanGogh,aligninghisartwiththenascentSymbolistmovementandhighlightingtheoriginalityandintensityofhisartisticvision.BytheoutbreakofWorldWarI,withthediscoveryofhisgeniusbytheFauvesandGermanExpressionists,VincentvanGoghhadalreadycometoberegardedasavanguardfigureinthehistoryofmodernart.8六十幅画一首歌给你讲述梵高的一生高清.flv
