Goodmorning,ladiesandgentlemen!ThanksforGroupA’swonderfulstatement.Nowit’smyturntopresentourpointofview.Ourteamfirmlyholdtheopinionthathandicappedstudentsshouldnotbeinseparateclassroomsthannormalstudents.Inordertoeffectivelydebatethistopic,wewouldliketoproposethedefinitionoftheword“handicapped”.Oursideholdsthatthe“handicapped”referstothepeoplesufferingfrommentalorphysicalhandicap,butexcludingthosepeoplewhoarecompletelyunabletotakecareofthemselves.IfGroupAthinksthatthehandicappedstudentsrefertothosewhoaretotallyunabletolookafterthemselves,thenthistopicwouldbemeaningless.Besides,webelieveitisalsonecessarytostatethedefinitionofthewholetopic.Combininghandicappedordisabledstudentsintoregularclassroomsinsteadofseparatingstudentsaccordingtotheirlearningdisabilitiesisakindofeducationalmethod.Firstofall,Iwouldliketostateouropinionfromtheperspectiveofeducation.Americaneducationaltheoristshaveproposedaword“mainstream”,whichmeansincludingstudentswithmentalorphysicalproblemsinordinaryschoolclasses.Thiseducationmethodhasmanyadvantages.Forexample,inAmerica,researchinvestigationshaveprovedthatwhendisabledstudentsareplacedinthesameclassroomswithregularachievingstudents,theyfeelthattheyareplacedonhigherexpectationandthereforetheyhavegreaterdesireandself-motivationtolearn,thustheirperformanceisbetter.Besides,mainstreamingwillteachallstudentsnondiscriminationandhandicappedstudentscanlearnhowtointeractnormallyinsociety.Secondly,mystatementisfromtheperspectiveofsociety.Solvingtheproblemsofhandicappedpeopleistheresponsibilityofthewholesociety,anditneedsthejointeffortsofthegovernment,thesocietyandthefamilies.Asaresponsiblesociety,wehavetheobligationtoprovidethedisabledwithnecessarysupportandassistance,andensuretheycanequallyenjoyallkindsofresourcesasnormalpeopledo.Ifhandicappedstudentshavetostudyinseparateclassroomsthannormalstudents,wecannotensurethattheycanenjoytheirlegitimaterightsandthesameresourcesasnormalstudentsdo.Somemayeventhinkitisakindofdiscriminationagainsthandicappedstudents.What’smore,accordingtothesociologicaltheory,thevulnerablegroupofasocietywhoaredeprivedofrelativeinterests,areverylikelytobeunfriendlytothebenefitedgroupwhodeprivetheirinterest.Ifthevulnerablegroupowetheirunsatisfactorysituationtothedeprivationofbenefitedgroup,thentherehasbeenpotentialrisksinthesociety.Andthiswillbeahiddendangerwhichthreatensthestabilityofthesocietyandhindersthesocialdevelopment.Fromthistheorywecanlearnthatweshouldtryourutmosttohelphandicappedpeoplerelievetheireconomic,socialandpsychologicalburden,becauseonlyinthiswaycanwemaintainthesocialstability.Andplacinghandicappedstudentswithnormalstudentsinthesameclassroomisjustastartingpoint,becausecurrentlythereare86.27millionhandicappedpeopleinChinaandtheemploymentofhandicappedstudentshasbecomeamatterofconcern.Aswementionedabove,studieshaveshownthathandicappedstudentswillhavebetterperformanceiftheyareplacedinthesameclassroomwithnormalstudents,sobydoingso,theenrollmentrateofhandicappedstudentswillincrease,morehandicappedstudentscanhavethechancetogotouniversity,thequalityofhandicappedpeoplewillimprove,andallofthesewillfinallyhelpsolvetheemploymentproblemofhandicappedpeople.Therefore,byplacinghandicappedstudentswithnormalstudentsinthesameclassroom,wecanultimatelyhelpsolveasocialproblem.Thirdly,webelievethatseparatinghandicappedstudentsfromnormalonesisnoteconomicalwhetherforschoolsorfamilies.Forschools,italsotakesagreatdealofmoneyifhandicappedstudentsareseparatedfromnormalstudents,becauseitrequirestheschoolstoemployextrateacherswhoareexpertinteachinghandicappedstudentsandprovideprofessionalfacilities,whichisahugeexpenditurethattheschools,perhaps,arenotwillingtopayfororcannotafford.Somemaysaythattherearegovernmentsubsidies,butusuallythesesubsidiescannotcoveralltheexpenses.Therebyitwillbeahugeburdenforschools.Forfamilies,raisingahealthychildisalreadydifficultinChinawherethepriceofcommoditiesisastronomicallyhigh,letaloneraisingahandicappedchild,becauseitrequiresthefamilytospendalotmoremoneytreatingtheirmentalorphysicaldisease.Andifhandicappedstudentsarenotallowedtostudytogetherwithnormalstudents,theirparentswillsurelyhavetopaymoretuitions,becausetheschoolswillchargethehandicappedstudentsandtheirparentsforthoseextrateachersandprofessionalfacilities.Fromwhathasbeendiscussedabove,wecanseethathandicappedstudentsshouldnotbeseparatedfromnormalstudents.
