为梦想执着——美国加州前州长阿诺德·施瓦辛格在清华大学的演讲Itiswonderfultobehereatthisuniversity.Whataspecialplace.Ijustlookedaroundalittlebithere,it’sagorgeous,gorgeousplace.Iwanttocongratulateyouforgoingtothismagnificentuniversityhere.Now,thelasttimeIwashereinChinawasfiveyearsago,andthenIwaspromotingmymovies.Theyhadamoviefestivalhere,theArnoldSchwarzeneggerMovieFestival.Iremembertheyshowedallmymoviesforaweek—whichwasararity,mayIremindyou—andtheyalsoshowedthemoviesontelevision.ButwealsowereheretopromoteSpecialOlympics,whichisanorganizationthathelpspeoplewithmentaldisabilities,soIwashereforbothreasons.ButthistimeI’mhereasthegovernorofthegreatstateofCalifornia.I’mhererepresentingthepeopleofCalifornia,andwe’rehereonatrademissiontoseehowwecandomorebusinesswithChinaandtohelpeachother,becausebothCaliforniaisaveryfastgrowingstate,andChinaisaveryfastgrowingcountry,andtherearealotofthingsthatwecandoforoneanother.ButIdidn’twanttomisstheopportunitytocomeheretodayandtotalkwiththeyoungpeople;asamatteroffact,tothebrightestyoungpeopleofChina.AndthisiswhyitissogreattobehereattheTsinghuaUniversity,andI’mhonoredthatIwasinvitedhere.Now,IreadalittlebitaboutthehistoryofTsinghua,andIlearnedthatactuallythisschooloriginallypreparedstudentstoattenduniversitiesinAmerica.Now,IalsoknowthatsincetheattackonourWorldTradeCentersithasbecomemoreandmoredifficulttogototheuniversitiesinAmericabecauseyouneedtofilloutallkindsofpaperworknowandyouhavetogetvisas,andit’sverycomplicated,andyouhavetowaitamuchlongerperiodoftimetogooverthere.Butletmetellyou,thingsareimprovingalready.I’veheardthatit’seasingup,therestrictions,andit’seasiertogetavisa.MyyoungChinesefriends,IwanttotellyouthatincasenoonefromAmericahaseverinvitedyou,letmedothisrightnowpersonally.IwanttowarmlyinviteallofyouheretocometotheUnitedStates,andespeciallytocometoCalifornia,becausethat’sthehappeningplace.Californiaisthebestplace.Pleasecomeandvisitus,wewillwelcomeyou.Iinviteyoualltocomethereandtotravel,tomeettheAmericanpeople,andtocomethereandstudyinouruniversities,andsomedayhopefullyyouwillcomeanddobusinessoverthere,ormaybeyou’llwanttomoveoverthere.Whateveryourgoalis,you’realwayswelcome.America,afterall,let’snotforget,isthelandofopportunity.Andit’snotonlythelandofopportunityforAustrianslikeme,butforChinesepeopleaswell.Rememberthat.Iknowthatbeginningwiththiscentury,Chinaisalsobecomingalandofopportunity.It’safastgrowingplace,andasthestudentsofthisgreatuniversityandthecitizensofarisingChina,Ithinkthatyouhaveagreatfuturealsohereinthiscountry.AndtodayIwanttotalktoyoualittlebitaboutthedreams,aboutthedreamsofyourfuture,anddreamsforthiscountry.Iwanttotalktoyoualittlebitaboutdreams,becauseitseemstomethatI’msomewhatofanexpertindreams,becauseIhadalotofmydreamsbecomeareality.Soletmejustbrieflytellyoumystory,andtellyoualittlebitabouthowIstartedwithmycareer.Ithinkthatthisstorykindofrelatesalittlebitalsotoyou,andalsotoChina.Istartedwaybackasaweightlifter.Ialwayslikedtheideaofliftingweightsandbeingabodybuilder.FromthefirstmomentwhenIgrippedabarbellandhelditaroundthebarandliftedthesteelupovermyhead,Ifeltthisexhilaration,andIknewthenthatthisissomethingthatI’mgoingtodo;thatIwasinlovewiththat,andthisisgoingtobesomethingthatI’mgoingtodo.I’mgoingtopursuethesportofweightliftingandbodybuilding.Now,IrememberthefirstrealworkoutthatIhad.EightmilesawayfrommyhomevillageinAustriatherewasagymnasium,andIrodetothatgymnasiumwithabicycle.AndthereItrainedforhalfanhour,becausetheysaidthatafterhalfanhouryoushouldstopbecauseotherwiseyourbodywillgetreallysore.ButafterhalfanhourIlookedatmybody,andnothinghadhappened.SoIsaid,I’dbetterworkoutforanotherhalfhour.SoIliftedsomemore.Mystrengthdidn’timprove,Ididn’tseethemusclespopoutoranythinglikethat,soItrainedforanotherhalfanhour.AndthenafteranotherhalfhourItrainedanotherhalfhour,andalltogetherItrainedtwoandahalfhours.Well,letmetellyousomething.Aftertwoandahalfhours—eventhoughtheytoldmethatIshouldn’ttrainthatmuchorIwouldgetreallysore—Ileftthegymnasium,Irodemybicyclehome.AndafterthefirstmileIgotnumb,andIcouldn’tfeelanymorethehandleofthebicycle,andIfelloffthebikeandIfellintotheditchonthesideoftheroad.SoIgotupagainandItrieditagain.Anotherfewyards,Ifelloffthebicycleagain.AndItrieditthree,fourmoretimes,andIjustcouldn’tridemybicyclebecausemybodywassonumbandmylegsfeltlikenoodles.Well,letmetellyousomething.ThenextmorningwhenIgotup,mybodywassosorethatIcouldn’tevenliftmyarmstocombmyhair.Ihadtohavemymothercombmyhair,andyouknowhowembarrassingthatis.Butyouknowsomething?Ilearnedaveryimportantlesson,thatpainmeansprogress.Painisprogress.EachtimemymusclesweresorefromaworkoutIknewthattheyweregrowingandtheyweregettingstronger.Ithinkthereisareallifelessoninthat.Aftertwoorthreeyearsofdisciplineanddeterminationandworkingouthard,Iactuallychangedmybody,andIchangedmystrength.Andthattoldmesomething;thatifIcouldchangemybodythatmuch,andifIcouldchangethestrengthofmybodythatmuch,thenIcouldalsochangeanythingelse.Icouldchangemyhabits,Icouldchangemyintelligence,Icouldchangemyattitude,mymind,myfuture,mylife.AndthisisexactlywhatIhavedone.Ithinkt
