TeachingislearningLuJinGoodmorning/afternoon,everyone.Firstofall,learningfromotherteacherscontributestotheimprovementofourteaching.WhenIbeganmycareerafewyearsago,IwassuchagreenhandthatIfeltatalosswhattodo.Iconsultedtheexperiecedcolleguesatmyschoolandtheygavemevaluableadvice.Withouttheirhelp,Iwouldnothavelearnedhowtopreparegoodlessonsandmanageclasswell.Iattendedtheirclassesandwatchedhowtheyconductedtheirlessons.Thoughtheirteachingstylesmayvary,efficencyisachievedineveryclass.Aftertheyattendedmyclasses,theynotonlyofferedmefeasiblesuggestions,butencouragedmegreatlyaswell.Apartfromexperiencedteachers,Ievenlearnalotfrommypeers.Everyteacherisuniqueinhisteachingandthereisalwayssomethingintheirteachingworthlearning.WhatIlearnedfromthemismuchmorepracticalthanIlearnedfromteachingtextbooks.Secondly,languageteachingrequirescontinuouslearningforthesimplereasonthatlanguageitselfisconstantlychanging.Languageisupdatedeveryday.Newwordsandexpressionsspringupinallsortsofmedia.Eventhegrammarofalanguageisonthewaytochanging.Ourtextbooksareadaptedeachtermtokeepupwiththelatesttrend.Howcananoutdatedteachthebrandnewlanguage?Ontopofthis,itisanundeniablefactthatthereisreallysomethingwemaynotunderstandfullyconcerningacertainareaofthelanguageweteach.Therefore,toteachwellweneedtolearnwellourselves.TodayIamgladtobeheretakingpartinthespeechcontest.Thepurposeofmycomingistosharemyunderstandingonteachingwithalltheexpertspresentandmyfellowteachersratherthandisplaymytalentorwinaprize.MytopictodayisTeachingislearning.I’dliketostatemyviewpointinthefollowingthreeaspects.Lastbutnotleast,itisrequiredthataqualifiedlanguageteachershouldneverstoplearninginordertoestablishacloserapprotwiththestudents.Thenewcurriculumdemandsthatourteachingshoudbestudents-oriented.Aharmoniousrelationshipwillundoubtedlyleadtobetterteachingresults.Ifwefallbehindthetimes,howcanwehavemuchincommonwiththestudentsandshortenthegapbetweenus?Inthisglobalinformationage,everyoneneedstolearntokeepupdatedandweteachersarenoexception.Soasacapableteacher,weneedtolearnsomethingabouteverythingandknoweverythingaboutsomething.Alearnedteacherwillneverfailtocommunicatewithhisorherstudentswell.Fromtheabove,wecandrawaconclusionthattheprocessofteachingisalsotheprocessoflearning.Learningneverends.Let’sliveandlearn.Thanksforlistening.Twothousandyearsagoourancestorstoldusatruthintheirbooks,whichIlearnedinmyprimaryschoolandstillcouldrememberclearlytoday.ThatisTeachingbenefitsteachersaswellasstudents.OurgreatesteducatorTaoXingzhialsosaid:teachingcanpromotenotonlystudentsbutalsoteachers.SevenyearshaspassedsinceIbecameateacherofEnglish.Inmydailyteachingpractice,IhaveexperiencedandrealizedTeachingislearning.Iwillsupportmyviewinthefollowingthreepoints.Firstly,knowledgeischangingandupdatingallthetime.Knowledgeisalivejustlikeourhumanbeing,especiallyvocabulary.Letmegiveyouaverysimpleexample,ifwesayInternet,spaceshipandsatellite,thesehigh-techwordstoapersoninTangorMingorQingdynasty,whatwillhappen?Iamsuretheywon’tunderstandus.Andviceversa.Soifwedon’twanttodropoutthisfastdevelopingsocietywemustlearneveryday.ThereisanoldChinesesayingaboutteachers:ifateacherwantstogivehisstudentsacupofwater,he/sheshouldhaveabucketofwaterormore.Nowthetextbookischangingveryrapidly.Andthecontentsofthetextbookarenotonlyuptodatebutalsoincludemanysubjects,suchasbiology,physics,chemistryandsoon.AlotoftimewhenIgetreadyformynewlessons,IhavetoconsultthedictionaryortheInternettofindmorerelevantandusefulinformation.Forexample,bird-nest,water-cubeandShanghaiExpoareappearedinourtextbooks.IdobelievethroughteachingIhavelearnedalot.Inmyopinionitisalsoagreatchancetoimproveourselves.Secondly,thegrowthanddevelopmentofeachstudentistotallydifferent.Peopleoftensaythattherearenotwothesameleavesinthisworld.Soarethestudents.Themeaningoftheexistenceofteachersisstudent.Iftherearenostudents,ofcoursetherearenoteachers.Sostudentsarethecentreofthewholeteaching.Thediversity,developmentanduncertaintyofeachstudentaregreatchallengestoourteachers.Howcanateacherdealwithallthesechallengeswell?Inmyopinionitislearning.Theonlychoiceistoturnthechallengesintomotivations.Andthengoonwiththereflectivepedagogicalthinkingandlife-longlearning.Ifwecandothese,inmyview,wecanmakeagreatprogressinourteaching.Thelastone,ourteachingskillsneedtobeimprovedintheteachingpractice.Teachingisanartwhichcanneverbeperfect.Itneedsskillstomakeitbetterandbetter.Sevenyearsago,whenIfirststoodhere,facedsomanystudents,Ireallydidn’tknowhowtoorganizeaclasswellandhowtoteachmystudentsefficiently.ThenIaskedexperiencedEnglishteachersandwenttolistentootherexcellentopenclassestolearnfromothers.AndatthesametimeIjoinedalltheteachingandstudyingactivities.What’smore,inmyfreetimeIreadEnglishteachingmethodologiestolearnnew,advancedandusefulteachingskills.ThenIcouldusetheseskillstoguidemydailyclassroomteaching.NowpersonallyIthinkIammoreexperiencedthanIusedtobe.ForatleastI’veknownclassroomteachingshouldbetask-basedandstudents’-centered.Teachingisakindofsustainableandrefinedjob.Andwhenweareteaching,actuallywearelearning.
