MyReflectionsonthefilmofTessoftheD'Urbervilles姓名:罗增学号:40904058班级:09级英语2班MyReflectionsonthefilmofTessoftheD'UrbervillesAsiswell-known,“TessoftheD'Urbervilles”isthemostfamousnovelofThomasHardy.TheimaginarystoryofthisnovelhappenedintheVictorianperiod.AruralclergymaninEnglandtoldDurbeyfield,asimplefarmer,thathewasdescendedfromtheillustriousd'Urbervillefamily,nowextinctormaybenot.Therefore,DurbeyfieldsenthisdaughterTesstocheckonafamilynamedD'Urbervillelivinginamanorhouseandthedistanceofwhichwaslessthanaday'scarriagerideaway.ThereAlecD'Urbervillewasdelightedtomeethisbeautifulcousin,andheseducedherwithstrawberriesandroses.ButAlecwasnorelationtoTess;hehadgottenhisillustriousnameandcoatedofarmsbypurchasingthem.SoonAlecfellinlovewithTess,evenseducedher.ThenTessleft,pregnant;backathome,thebabydied.Sometimelater,Tessbegantoworkasamilkmaid,andthereshemethertrueloveAngelClare,whobelievedhercompletelyinnocent.However,AngeldidnotlearnofherpreviousrelationshipwithAlecuntiltheirweddingnight,andrejectedher.Desertedbyherhusband,TessmetAlecagain,andpovertyforcedhertoresumetheirrelationship.Yearslater,Angelreturnedfromtravellingabroad,remorsefulathistreatmentofTess,butfoundherwithAlec.Finally,TessmurderedAlecinordertorunawaywithAngel.Andtheyspentonenightofhappinesstogether,beforeshewasarrested.Actually,thefirsttimeIwatchedthemoviewasinhighschool.Atthatmoment,IthoughtthatTesswasreallyatragicfigureinthebook“TessoftheD’Urbervilles”.Shewasseducedbyaso-calledgentleman—Alec,andfromthenonherlifetotallychangedfromthelossofinnocence.Peoplelookeddownonherandrespectedhernomore.Virtually,shedidnothingwrongbecausebeforeshewasseducedsheknewnothingofmen.Shewasjustagirlwhenshefirstmetthatterribleman.Nonetheless,shewasforcedbythegossipsandthechurchtoblameherselfforthisaccident,soshethoughtshedeservednothinggood.Inordertogetridofthepast,shedecidedtogotoadistantdairyfarmbutwasstillsayingtoherselfthatshewaswrong.MaybeGoddidn’tagreewiththat,becausetheLordgavehersomeoneshelovedwithherwholeheartandlife—AngelChare.Unfortunately,itwasstillasadending.WhenIwatchedthefilmagain,Ihaddifferentaffectionstothefiguresofthisnovel.IcouldnottellanymeritsfromAngelfromtheverybeginning,evenbacktothatMayDanceonthelawn.Honestly,atthefirstglance,Iconcludedthathewasanemotionalunstableyoungsterwhocanbarelybearanyresponsibility.Headopteddualmoralstandards,IbetTess'slifewouldbegettingbetter,orevenahappyendingwithAlecorothernormalbutkindmanwithoutevergettingthechancetomeetAngel.AndIwasmorethanwillingtoadaptthissentenceIfwehaddancedthatday,howhappywemighthavebetoIfwehavehadn'tmetonthatday,howhappyImighthavebe.PoorTess,yougotthewrongway!Obviously,Angelwasadevil,butthiscanstillmakenodifferencetoTessifshechosetokeepthatsecretwhatshehadalreadysworntohermum,anincapablebutintelligentmotherwhoalwayscaredforTess.That'stosay,Tess'spurityshouldbeblamed,atleastpartly,forherowntragedy,devilneedscounterpartsnotarealangeltomatchwitheachother.Inthemeantime,Tessisaperfectionist,shecan'tstandanyflawslyingbetweenAngelandherself,yes,herpursuitofperfectlovewithoutanyreservefromthatmanshedeeplylovespredictsherdestiny.PoorTess,Ican'thelpfeelingbadlysadforher,sheshallknowtheprincipleofequitycan'tbetranslatedintoreality,particularlyaworldruledbymenbackthen,whichisalmostthecasenowadays.Overall,IemphasizethatTess'spurity,perfectionism,principleofequity,andpoignancyendedherselfupinhanging.Anyway,it'sjustafictivemoviebuttheremustbesomethingincommonwhichisapplicableeventoday.
