 Talk about a book you have read that was important to you for some reason. Explain why the book was important to you. Give specific details and examples to explain your answer.  The most helpful book for me is the famous English novel “Jane Eyre” written by Charlotte Bronte. The heroine called Jane Eyre is outwardly of poor appearance but plucky, she poses great courage and indomitable spirit to battle against unfair fortune as the governess to the daughter of attractive Mr. Rochester. That story happened on Jane does encourage people to challenge fate and take a positive and independent attitude to fight for freedom and equality, thus allowing access to our own happiness. That is also why I think this book, Jane Eyre, is so important to me.  Task2 Some people believe that television has had a positive influence on society. Others believe it has had a negative influence on society. Which do you agree with and why? Use details and examples to explain your opinion. In my view, television has a positive effect for modern society. Firstly, it offers us an efficient and convenient way to get the latest news and deep analysis on big event. You can directly see what has happened around the entire world just in your home. Moreover, television also has brought us a visual enjoyment and broadened our knowledge by different types of programs. I can learn English skill from CCTV10, focusing on education, or enjoy the movie from CCTV 6, film program. Finally, television can release job seeking pressure at some extent, by providing a job chance for people who are willing to be engaged in related career.  Task3 Letter in the Centerville College News The administration has announced plans to acquire a new sculpture for campus. We should all oppose this plan. The university’s financial condition led it to increase the price for campus housing and tuition by 15% this past year. Surely then it is in no financial position to purchase such an expensive sculpture. Moreover, just look at the sculpture: several 60‐foot long steel plates, jutting out of the earth at odd angles. It’s so large; it’ll take up all the green space in front of the campus center! This is public space that should be reserved for students to use.  Explain why the woman disagrees with the reasons expressed in the letter.   In the reading passage, acquiring a new sculpture seems a bad choice for university. However, the woman disagrees with the opinion as the following reasons. First of all, the sculpture doesn’t need the university finance department to pay too much as some anonymous donors will supply the fund. Under this，that the price of campus housing and tuition increases by 15% is also impossible.   the place where the sculpture will be built is not so large that it will be reserved for all the students to use. The reason for Paul to say so is that that place is often be used by Paul and his friends as the soccer playing area. Compared with soccer playing space for a few students, the space for sculpture, as the nice art in university, seems better.  Task4 Groupthink One process by which groups may make bad or irrational decisions is known as groupthink. Individual members of a group attempt to conform their opinions to what they believe to be the group consensus even though the result may be negative. These include the desire to be like, fear of losing a job, or even not wanting to be the one employee delaying a decision that seems inevitable. These kinds of implicit pressures to conform lead group members to ultimately make decisions that each by himself or herself, might normally not make.  Explain groupthink and its effects using the example of the computer company.   From the reading passage, people may finally get the bad or irrational decision through groupthink as individual members will conform their ideas following group consensus without considering whether the idea is rational. From the listening passage, the experience from the guy approves that opinion. Once，his company’s computers need to update their makeover in order to attract more customers. At the beginning, there are over 50 percent stuff supporting this idea. However, one of senior managers disagrees, because the company’s computer focused on technology not out‐looking. He thought the cost is unnecessary. After that, most people reverse their opinions and agree with the senior manager. They just don’t want to leave a bad impression on their senior manager and keep their job steady. No way out. The guy had to submit to the senior manager. In the end, the competitor occupied more market as the new design.  Task5  The speakers discuss two possible solutions to the woman’s problem. Briefly summarize the problem. Then sate which solution you recommend and explain why.    the problem The woman faced is that she had no van to take her students to the zoo as she is too late to ask the rental agency to provide the van for tomorrow travelin
