Issue125Standard1.2.41STANDARD1.2.4LABELLINGOFINGREDIENTSPurposeThisStandardsetsoutspecificrequirementsforthelabellingandnamingofingredientsandcompoundingredients.TableofProvisions1Interpretation2Requirementforstatementofingredients3Allingredientstobelistedinastatementofingredients4Ingredientstobelistedbycommon,descriptiveorgenericname5Ingredientstobelistedindescendingorderofingoingweight6Declarationofcompoundingredients7Declarationofalternativeingredients8Declarationoffoodadditives9Declarationofvitaminsandminerals10ProcessdeclarationforoilSchedule1ClassesofadditivesSchedule2FoodadditivecodenumbersClauses1Interpretation(1)InthisStandard–compoundingredientmeansaningredientofafoodwhichisitselfmadefromtwoormoreingredients.ingredientmeansanysubstance,includingafoodadditive,usedinthepreparation,manufactureorhandlingofafood.(2)NothinginthisStandardaffectsthemandatorydeclarationrequirementsinStandard1.2.3.2RequirementforstatementofingredientsThelabelonapackageoffoodmustincludeastatementofingredientsunless–(a)thefoodislabelledwiththenameofthefoodwhichwouldotherwisebethoseingredientslistedintheingredientlist;or(b)thefoodiswaterpresentedinpackagedformasstandardisedinStandard2.6.2;or(c)thefoodisanalcoholicbeveragestandardisedinStandard2.7.2toStandard2.7.5ofthisCode;or(d)thefoodiscontainedinasmallpackage.Editorialnote:SeeStandard1.2.3–MandatoryWarningandAdvisoryStatementsandDeclarationsfortherequirementstoalwaysdeclarethepresenceofcertainsubstances.FederalRegisterofLegislativeInstrumentsF2013C00264Issue125Standard1.2.423AllingredientstobelistedinastatementofingredientsAstatementofingredientsmustlisteveryingredientinthefoodunlesstheingredientis–(a)aningredientofaflavouringasdefinedinSchedule5ofStandard1.3.1;or(b)avolatileingredientwhichiscompletelyremovedduringmanufacture;or(c)addedwaterwhere–(i)thewaterisaddedtoreconstitutedehydratedorconcentratedingredients;(ii)thewaterformspartofbroth,brineorsyrupwhichisdeclaredintheingredientlistorispartofthenameofthefood;or(iii)thewaterconstituteslessthan5%ofthefinalfood;or(d)asubstanceusedasaprocessingaidinaccordancewithStandard1.3.3.4Ingredientstobelistedbycommon,descriptiveorgenericnameIngredientsmustbedeclaredinthestatementofingredientsusing–(a)thecommonnameoftheingredient;or(b)anamethatdescribesthetruenatureoftheingredient;or(c)whereapplicable,agenericnamesetoutintheTabletothisclause.Editorialnote:Theterm‘commonname’doesnothaveatechnicalmeaningforthepurposesofparagraph4(a),andshouldbegivenitsordinarymeaning.Tabletoclause4GenericnameConditionsforUsecerealsWherethecerealiswheat,rye,barley,oatsorspeltortheirhybridisedstrainsthenthespecificnameofthecerealmustbedeclared.cheeseNospecificconditionsetcocoabutterNospecificconditionsetcrystallisedfruitNospecificconditionsetfatsoroils1.Mustbequalifiedastowhetherthesourceisanimalorvegetable2.Wherethesourceofvegetableoilispeanut,soybeanorsesamethespecificsourcenamemustbedeclared3.Inthecaseofdairyproducts,includingicecream,thesourceofanimalfatsoroilsmustbespecificallydeclared4.MustnotbeusedforDiacylglyceroloil.fishIfcrustacea,thespecificnameofthecrustaceamustbedeclaredfruitNospecificconditionsetgumbaseNospecificconditionsetherbsNospecificconditionsetmeatNospecificconditionsetmilkproteinNospecificconditionsetmilksolidsMaybeusedtodescribemilkpowder,skimmilkpowder,driedmilkproductsstandardisedinthisCodeoranytwoormoreofthefollowingingredients:whey,wheypowder,wheyproteins,lactose,caseinates,milkproteinsandmilkfat.nutsThespecificnameofthenutmustbedeclaredpoultrymeatNospecificconditionsetspicesNospecificconditionsetstarchWherethesourceofthestarchiswheat,rye,barley,oatsorspelt,ortheirhybridisedstrains,thenthespecificnameofthecerealmustbedeclared.Thename‘starch’maybeusedforanyunmodifiedstarchoranystarchwhichhasbeenmodifiedbyeitherphysicalmeansorenzymesFederalRegisterofLegislativeInstrumentsF2013C00264Issue125Standard1.2.43Tabletoclause4(continued)GenericnameConditionsforUsesugar1.Maybeusedtodescribe;whitesugar,whiterefinedsugar,castersugar,castorsugar,loafsugar,orcubesugar,icingsugar,coffeesugar,coffeecrystals,rawsugar2.Theword‘sugars’mustnotbeusedinastatementofingredientsvegetablesNospecificconditionset5Ingredientstobelistedindescendingorderofingoingweight(1)Ingredientsmustbedeclaredinthestatementofingredientsindescendingorderofingoingweight,except–(a)whereadehydratedorconcentratedingredientisreconstitutedduringpreparation,manufactureorhandlingofthefood,inwhichcase,thepositionofthatingredientinthestatementofingredientsmaybedeterminedbytheweightoftheingredientbeforeconcentrationordehydration;or(b)whereanydehydratedorconcentratedfoodisintendedtobereconstitutedinaccordancewithdirections,inwhichcase,theingredientsmaybestatedindescendingorderofproportionbyweightinthereconstitutedproduct,provideditisclearthattheingredientsarebeingdeclaredinorderoftheirweightwhenreconstituted;or(c)addedwaterandvolatileingredients,whichmustbedeclaredinaccordancewithsubclause5(2);or(d)compoundingredients,whichmustbedeclaredinaccordancewithclause6.Editorialnote:Thestatemento
