FOREIGNTEACHER’SGUIDETOTEACHINGINCHINATeacher’sCodeofConductPartA:GENERALCONDUCTREQUIREMENTSTeachersareexpectedto:1.Setagoodexampleforstudents,careforothers,bedevotedtoteaching,co-operateandbewillingtolearnfromothers.2.Createteaching/lessonplans,accomplishtheintendedteachingtaskwiththehighestdevotionandefficiency.Teachersmustalsoshowflexibilityintheirteachingmethodswherepossible,beenthusiasticaboutteaching,anddisplayagreatdealofpatience.3.Gradehomeworkconsistently,asrequiredandkeepaccuraterecordofthestudents’performanceinclass.4.Beopentosuggestions,commentsandcriticismfromthecompanyandfellowcolleagues.Teachersarealwaysencouragedtoimprovetheirteachingstyleandbeabletomotivatetheirstudents.5.Abidebytheschool’spoliciesregardingattendance.Alwaysbepunctual;neverleavebeforetheendofclass.6.Bepassionateaboutyourworkandcommityourselftotheschoolandstudents.Acceptyourmoralandprofessionalresponsibilitytothestudents,alwayssetagoodexampletothem.Respectthestudentsbefirm,butfair.Instructthestudentswithoutdiscriminationortheuseofphysicalormentalabuse.6.Beprecise,cautiousandmodest,respecting,helping,andlearningfromeachother.Avoidbadmouthingotherteachers,theschoolandstudents,thecompanyandalwayscreateacivilizedatmosphereoncampus.8.Refrainfromidlechatwithstudentsduringclasstimeandmaintaintheimageoftheschoolandcompanyatalltimes.9.Don’tsmokeintheofficeortheclassroom,andmaintainacceptablestandardsofpublichealthandsanitation.10.Don’tleavepersonalbelongingsintheoffice,classroom,orotherpublicareas.11.Yourassistancewithkeepingoperatingexpenditurereasonableforthecompanyisrequiredandinsodoing,avoidmakingnon-officialcallsfromtheofficeandusestationarysparingly.12.Any,personalrelationshipsofaromanticnaturewithnationalsorforeignersshouldbekeptintheprivatedomainoftheforeignlanguageteacher.Anysuchrelationshipwillnotbetoleratedattheassignedschoolduringnormalclasstime,onthepremisesoftheschoolandsuchrelationshipsmaynevercompromisetheintegrityandgoodstandingofthecompany.PartB:GUIDEFORTEACHING1.DevelopteachingplansTeachersmustbefamiliarwiththecourseoutlineandteachingmaterialtobecovered.Teachersareencouragedtostressanydifficultpointsofeachunitandchaptertotheirstudentsclearly.Generalteachingplansforthenewsemesterwillbemadebytheteachingcoordinatorsinconsultationwiththeschoolandforeignlanguageteachers.Eachindividualteacherwillberequiredtocreatehis/herownteachingplanfordailyclassesinlinewiththegeneralsemesterplan.2.PrepareforlessonsTeachersareexpectedtohaveaclearidearegardingtheirteachingtaskandrequirementforeachunit,preparingformalandclearteachingplansforeachclass,accordingtotheteachingmaterials.Teachingplansshouldinclude:theaimoftheclass,importantpointstobestressed,problemareas,proceduresandmethodsofteaching,distributionoftimeandasummaryafterclass.Donotgivealecturewithoutpreparingalessonplan.3.TeachinginclassTeachersareexpectedtobeginandfinishclassesontime.Teachersarenottoleavetheclassroomduringclasstimeunlessabsolutelynecessary.Teachersareexpectedtodressappropriately,behaveinaprofessionalmannerandcreateaninteractiveandfriendlyatmosphereinclass.Thefocusofeachclassshouldbeonthegrammaroutlinedineachunit,andhelpingstudentsunderstandthematerialbeentaughtinanarticulatedandclearmanner.Properexplanationsshouldalsobegivenforanyunitsorexercisesthatareuncleartostudents.4.AssignmentandhomeworkgradingTeachersaretoassignhomeworkbasedontheareasofunderstandingdifficulty.Instructionsandexamplesaretobegivensothatthestudentshaveaclearideaofwhatthelearningoutcomesare.Teachersareresponsibleforcorrectingandgradingthestudents`homeworkwithanindividualassessmentforeachstudent.5.TutorshipTeachersshouldprovidetutoringifrequestedbythestudent.Thisindividualtutoringwilltakeplaceduringtheteacher’sofficehoursorasadditionalworkwhichwillbecompensatedinovertimepaybyBNUIAEC,afterapprovalhasbeengiven.Tutoringshouldbeprovidedspecificallytoindividualstudent’sspecificneedsandshouldbegivenaccordingtotheirskilllevel.Theaimofprivatetutoringoutsideofclassistotargetlesserperformingstudentssothattheclassstandardmayberaised.Tutoringmustberecordedbytheteacherandskillssuchasresearching,referencingandindependentstudyshouldbestressed.6.AssessmentsAssessmentsinclude:Reviewingandcheckingeachunit;givinganexaminationeachsemesterandkeepingtrackofdailyperformancerecords.TestpaperswillbecreatedbyteachersaccordingtotherequirementandIELTSstyle,andsupervisedbytheteachingcoordinators.TheFoundationTestPaperreferstotheadmissionrequirementoftheuniversityabroad,includingbasicknowledgeandcomprehension.Testpapersaregradedbyalltheteachingstaffaftertheexamandarebasedonfairandobjectivecriteria.Scoresarerecordedandkeptbytheteachingoffice.Anypersonwantingtoviewhisorherscorewillneedtoobtainthenecessarypermission.fromtheteachingcoordinators.Viewingofexamscoreswillbedoneunderthesupervisionofatleasttwoteachers.Teachersarethenrequiredtogivefeedbacktothestudentsaboutmistakesmadeinthetest,correctionsandsuggestionsforthestudent.7.Understandingyourjobresponsibilitiesi.Toteachstudentsmaterialasdefinedinthecourseoutlineforeachcourse
